I guess I should have made it more clear. I was an AM, of course I know how the pay structure works, but there were times when I had sold a lot of Cutco one week, and then had the demo where I didn't sell, spent money in transportation, told the customer that I was going to get paid to show it to her anyways, and ended up making nothing, because the my commission was still higher.

I am not complaining about the pay, because I made a lot of money working for Vector. I am complaining about the fact that it is part of the phone approach, because after all, while you can get base pay, it is also through specific guidelines, it is misleading to tell the customer that you get paid to show it to them, because it is just an easy way to get your foot in the door.

Another thing about the ads, and the recruiting process in general. A lot of people say "the job is not for everyone," and its true, its not. But, Vector should stop trying to sell the job out to everyone, because not everyone is a salesperson. Maybe things have changed since I quit (around may of 2003), but when I started about a year prior, I thought that I was going to be working in a customer service type job in or store or something, it was so vague.

Lastly, the Henckels ad. There is no way to deny that it is misleading. I went to Williams-Sonoma, which was taught by my manager in training to fill into the blank space in the close, and it is an extremely expensive kitchen store, and the 18 piece fivestar set was only $599, which is more expensive than online but still nowhere near $1399 or $1022. Also, if you add up the knives in the henckels set, plus the block, plus the steak knives, it will end up being around $1399, but then you take a look at the actual set and it runs at $479, because henckels gives you a deal when you order the set. I know that it is dicounted online, but I felt bad when doing my close and saying that henckels costs $1399 when I knew in the back of my mind that they could buy it for cheaper.

Now, I didn't mean to hurt you in any way. My first summer with vector was amazing, and I made some good friends. The product is good, although a little overpriced. I think that cutco sells itself, and doesn't need to rely on a fake Henckels ad in order to close the sale. My main gripe is really using henckels as a comparison, as well as some recruiting processes. Now, if you are doing well with vector and are having a good time more power to you, I know I was until I went into management. That is one thing I would say to stay away from though, I hated management, but maybe that's just me. Again, I never meant to hurt you or put you down, I was just shedding some light or another side of the story, and calling me stupid ang ignorant doesn't make you look good anyways, because I have seen much more of the company than you, I have even been to Olean a few times, which is a cool trip to go on if you can btw.

Overall, maybe I should have made my post clearer. I don't hate Vector, and it is a fine company to work for, but there are things that I would like to see change, as I listed above. Again, I didn't mean to hurt you and was just presenting another side, as I have said before, and calling me stupid and ignorant in itself is just that because you don't know what my experience with the company was like, and I am not biased about vector, there are a lot of people who are, but I am down the middle, there are a lot of things that I don't like about them, but then again, there are some great things about the company. Like on one hand what I said before, but on the other hand you can meet some really cool people, and you have manager that will help you grow and make you feel special. Sometimes I miss vector, but in some ways I don't. It's hard to explan, but if I hear about some changes in the company, I might dust off my blue book again and make some extra money on the side while at college. Well, thanks for reading.

Alright, I'm sorry I called you stupid and ignorant. That was pretty stupid on my part. I think it was just that your arguement wassn't very clear, I guess.

You still make me laugh about the pay. When the paychecks are figured out, they start out with your base pay. Again, using my example from above, that would make my check for $80. Now, they add on whatever is left to equal your commission. That week, I made no extra money. But say you sold a Homemaker+8 and your CPO is 699 after you take away your bonus points. So that week, you made about $140 off commission. Now we'll say you did 5 demos again, so your base pay is $80. Then they add on the $60 to equal your commission. That's how it was explained to me. It's a little weird, I know, but you always get paid the higher of the two. So why are you complaining if they pay you the higher one?

I understand now that you just wanted to express somw things you wanted to see changed with Vector and Cutco. That oesn't mean it's a scam.

Yes do you do get paid on the higher of the two, but yes, the pay is a little confusing, but remember just because you did five demos doesn't mean you are going to get paid on all 5 demos, they all need to be qualified presentations.

And I guess that Scam was the wrong word for it. There are things that should be changed though, what I listed in my previous post. Heck, if Vector got rid of the Henckels ad comparison all together I would surely start selling actively again. But, you can learn a lot working for vector, make some good friends, and grow as a person, as well as making good money, so if it's working for you, than more power to you.

ok, this is just an fyi for you....

in the receptionist aproach, when someone calls about the job, they have become more open to talking about cutco. so you have a better understanding of what you would be doing. and on the flyers that we hang out, it has vector and cutco on them. so you could research it if you wanted.

just thought you might want to know......

well that sounds like a step for the better, now if they would just get rid of the henckels ad it would be awesome
