Deathly Hallows, Part One

Finally got to see Deathly Hallows, Part One, and thoroughly enjoyed it:

Jason Isaacs gives an incredible performance. He delivers Lucius's desperation, stress, fear and broken spirit, to perfection in every movement and quaver in his voice. His reaction to Voldemort snapping off the ornamental handle of his wand was brilliant.

Alan Rickman gives a wealth of emotion in a single look. Wish the opportunity for him to appear more had arisen.

Tom Felton truly continues to shine in this film, as with HBP, he really nails Draco's struggles and change.

When Lucius was desperate to get Draco to identify the captive as Harry, I liked how Narcissa pulled her husband away and held his arm in support and guidance; I felt it gave a touching depth to the dynamic of the two characters.

Both Emma Watson and Helena Bonham Carter were amazing during the torture scene, it really packs a punch to the heart and senses.

The moment everyone looks up to see Dobby unscrewing the chandelier was priceless. Dobby's death scene was so sad.

Malfoy Manor looked highly impressive and a palpable mood to the place at that time. Alas, no albino peacocks. ;)

I liked that Harry released Hedwig, rather than her being helpless and caged up. Her return to defend Harry was an amazing addition.

The dance scene with Harry and Hermione, I liked. It helped restore a hope and comfort from the previous bleak and draining exchange. I preferred this for when she felt devastated by Ron's outburst and departure, Harry offered a measure of support and understanding. It's a contrast to the indifference he displays in the book, even disliking her company after she saved his life, but unfortunately broke his wand. However, the Horcrux heightening his hapless frustration and stress would be a fair explanation for his mindset and resultant behaviour in the book, I think.

Bathilda Bagshot, very creepy. Nagini was used to her full potiential. I jumped when she struck again.

The silver doe was beautiful and a very effectively acted scene.

I thought the animated tale of the Three Brothers really bought the legend to life.

I'm unsure what happened with Pettigrew. Did Dobby's spell stun Pettigrew or kill? It felt the character's inclusion held no more purpose than reminding the audience he existed, because the strangulation moment was removed.

It's a pity no flashback sequence could be included for Regulus, or more detail about his sacrifice.

I know that changes are inevitable in film adaptions, it's a different medium and form of storytelling, what might work on page won't necessary translate well directly onto screen. However, I hope an explanation might be included in part two for how Harry obtained the mirror shard. Sirius's gift of one mirror for communication (a pair of two-way mirrors) and the smashing of Harry's was not shown in the OotP movie. I don't mind if they find another root source, as long as it hopefully makes sense within the context of the film storyline.

Feeling even more positive about part two!
