Lols! That's happened to me! Last winter I was at Target and made the mistake of wearing a red sweater with khaki pants (what their associates wear). My daughter was with me and we were shopping for jeans for her. She ran off to use the bathroom. My older sister was in the hospital and I was in the middle of a phone conversation with my mom about her. An old lady walked up to me and stood there, but I ignored her because I was listening to my mom. She snapped, "EXCUSE ME!" and I looked at her and she snarled, "GET OFF YOUR PHONE RIGHT NOW! I NEED ASSISTANCE!" I blinked at her and said, "Ma'am, I don't work here." She didn't believe me and sputtered something about me lying, making this wide gesture at my outfit and I grinned, which she didn't like because she said, "I'm getting a manager! You are so rude!" I replied, "Yes, ok, ma'am, you do that."
My mom asked, "What's going on?" She did 25 years in retail and I told her. She started cracking up. Meanwhile, my daughter came back from the bathroom and we started choosing jeans. The old lady returned a few minutes later with a confused manager in tow. She pointed at me and I said, "I told her I don't work here, but she didn't believe me. How many Target employees have their kids at work with them?" My daughter grinned and waved at them. The old lady turned to the poor manager and started berating him about how generic their uniforms are and how they needed blue vests like the people at Walmart wear.
