What folklore is that? Have you a link or book title?

(*collects folklore*)

I have a couple of friends who practice various things, and I've always felt sorry for them when that sort of thing comes up. "Can't you make her father think it's all right that his young teenage daughter live with twenty-someodd-year-old me?" "Can't you put out his brakes or something?" "She left me, can't you make her come back?"

Clearly, those folks either don't read enough fantasy novels to get the idea that there are LIMITS to magical thing--or have been reading too much.

Either that, or they've been watching too much Buffy...or playing KH...

sadly? many of them have been listening to the propaganda against magic by some of the hyper "Christian" preachers (and i put that in quotes for a reason)

you know the ones who claim satanic conspiracies behind everything, etc? well its the same old same old guys. if you tell the people that "all magic is satanic" and you tell the folks that "Satan is very powerful and can warp peoples minds and make them do bad stuff, etc" then when they want a person's mind changed.. YOU have just told them where to go.

and then WE have to deal with it.

no love

ARGH! I HATE those kinds of preachers! They give the good ones bad names! It is the person WIELDING the magic that can be either good or evil! *sighs* Why am I suddenly reminded of the Salem Witch Trials era?

yeah. its sad really.. those "give Christians a bad name" types end up CAUSING the problems they preach about....

its actually the same thing that led to the "satanism" of the renaissance (especially the court of Louis the 16th). the Christian church was, whether they knew it or not, telling people that while the church couldnt/wouldnt help them...... Satan was "just as powerful" and etc etc etc...
so they invented the Black Mass, because of what the church elders told them.

nowadays you get the wiccan wanna be crowd. half of them are trying to rebel against their church, or their parents, and they "know" that all pagans REALLY follow satan (after all their preacher told them so) and they go off and do what the preacher TOLD them "witches" do.... like kill animals and hurt things, and worship the devil, and etc....

and you know, deep in their heart of hearts i suspect those preachers are happy about it, because it "proves them right"

meanwhile everyone else gets to try to clean up the mess.

*points to icon* Christian preachers need to stay out of my religion, thanks. That didn't end so well last time.

there are many self appointed (and sometimes otherwise appointed) "leaders" of most religions and politics, that need to go back and re take the kindergarten classes.. you know the ones:
share
turns
play nice
no hitting
no calling names

ooh. i would have to look for books or something, at this point its mostly stuff stuck in my head from when i was younger.. when we had the store of course i could have just gone over and read you off titles...

i seem to recall that "The Modern Witches Spell book" printed in the 60s or 70s had a lot of old folklore re printed in it.

and of course most of the voodoo and etc charm books have "spells to bring back a wayward spouse" it was a common type of spell in old books and lore. and a very common potion recipe.
