"You don't have to do this."
Sean Hotchner threw an irritated look over his shoulder at his brother, from his position in front of the stove.
Aaron was leaning tiredly against one counter, face haggard and drawn, and arms crossed as if to ward off a chill.
"I know I don't," Sean said. "I want to. The owner of my restaurant knows a guy here in D.C., and when he heard what happened, he talked to him and they set it up so that I could have a job here."
"I just don't think you should give up your life for --"
"Aw, stuff it, Aaron. You're my brother, and I'm not leaving you to deal with all of this on your own. Especially since you've decided to move back into the house."
"Jack wants to go home," he murmured, staring off into the distance.
"And I'll go with you," Sean said implacably. "You're not dealing with that alone."
Someone knocked on the door before Aaron could come up with a suitable reply. He glanced at the door and straightened, muttering as he passed, "Nobody's letting me be alone."
A minute later, Jack was running to the living room, a big smile on his face. He was quieter than the last time Sean had seen him, but that was to be expected, considering the circumstances. Sean stirred the risotto one more time and then rinsed his hands, snagging a kitchen towel on the way to see who had just come.
It was one of Aaron's team, the tall, lanky one. He was hooking a cane to the back of Aaron's couch and then sitting carefully, eyes going wide when he caught sight of Sean.
Aaron looked confused for a moment, then said, "I don't know if you two ever formally met each other. Spencer Reid, this is my brother, Sean. Sean, this is Reid."
"I hope I'm not interrupting," Reid said, glancing between the two of them and making room for Jack on the couch.
"Not at all," Sean replied, "Aaron and I were just discussing the details of my moving in with him."
Jack bounced a little, and Reid gave a small, relieved smile. "In that case, please don't let me stop you. Jack and I will go play with the Erector Sets Dave brought by last time."
Aaron hesitated a second and then shrugged, reaching out to ruffle Jack's hair before he followed Sean back to the kitchen. "I think he draws the short straw a lot," he said lowly. "Reid comes over to check on us more than anyone else does."
"Oh, yeah?" Sean raised an eyebrow, but didn't comment. "Well, he can stay for dinner, and we can talk about moving my waterbed."
Aaron sighed and pulled another piece of salmon from the freezer. "The lava lamp stays in New York. I'm not having you be a bad influence on Jack."
Sean just grinned quietly.
