Saw the new Hellboy. The plot was a bit weak, the romantic plots tedious, but oh the pretty. Oh, the Elf Rage. El Toro's muppety world of unseen gobliny goodness is a wonder to behold. If this guy was on the Star Wars movies there would have been a lot less suck, I'd suspect. He managed to convey visually emotion the dialog was unable to express but yearned to. I'd say about at the point the Forest God appeared, the movie really started to catch for me. And the Angel was just magnificent, a distinctly El Toro creation. Wusha elf action and gobliny gears help too.
Last night I watched Hellboy: Blood and Iron on Cartoon Network, a feature length cartoon, and was suprised by just how well it was written. Where Golden Army was beautiful with soso writing, this was acceptably animated but with an excellent story. I was impressed with the nuance and graphic level, it flirted right up an R rating there. Liz seems to suck a lot less in the cartoons than in the movies, too. Will have to check out more of that.
