Prayer

So stowellian made this post here about prayer. The whole idea has been running about in my head. I commented that I don't pray because it changes God. I pray because it changes me.

So on Sunday, I watched this documentary called Trembling Before G-d. (Netflix has everything.) It is about homosexuals in the Orthodox Jewish community. It's an okay documentary; probably more interesting to me than most people.

In the documentary, one of the Rabbis mentioned that there is a tradition of people influencing God: Abraham, Moses, etc. Prayer, in his opinion, is a dialog, that can influence God as much as the person praying.

That is so foreign to me...not how I think about prayer at all.
