Title: 3-2 (p.)
Pairing: Ricardo Kakà/Andriy Shevchenko
Rating: G
It hurts, you still think, that he chose to leave at the time-barely a year since that night in Istanbul when his miss might have sealed your fate. Perhaps, you still wonder, perhaps if he had converted it and you had won (together) then he’d stay and you’d be (together).
In the end, you finally decide, it is his fault no matter what because it is meant to be that way-you don’t seal anything, you have learned; instead, you show faith and Fate: she decides if you have done enough.
You weren’t enough and he didn’t have faith.
Title: Celebration
Pairing: Benny Feilhaber/Sacha Kljestan
Rating: G
“We need a game ritual,” Benny announces to Sacha.
“You mean like Landon’s penalty-taking homage?” Sacha laughs and proceeds to do an exaggerated impression of the midfielder kissing his wrists-and hands and knuckles and palms-and Benny laughs too.
“No, hell no,” he says when they’ve both calmed down. “I mean like a celebration thing. Look, we’re playing China-when?”
“Saturday,” Sacha supplies and rolls his eyes.
“Yeah, Saturday. If either one of us scores a goal…” Benny pauses for a moment before he starts to laugh again and Sacha is curious now.
“What?”
“We dance, okay? Like this.”
Title: Closure
Pairing: Sergio Ramos/Fernando Torres
Rating: G
¡hola fernando! ¿que tal? is what he usually says-there is no warmth in Sergio’s voice today, however, and Fernando is too excited to hear it anyway.
“I would’ve called you sooner, but I’ve only just got back and there was so much to do and-”
“Will you score many goals for them?”
“Well…I hope so, playing forward and all. Come on, Sergio-”
“It will be different, you know. It is different-England and Spain.”
“Spain, England-doesn’t matter; all strikers want goals! If I get a healthy number this season-”
“But I won’t be defending them.”
Title: Makes Me Wonder
Pairing: N/A; Characters are Benny Feilhaber and Sacha Kljestan
Rating: G
“I hate being part of the wall.” The match against Ecuador earlier today has put Sacha in a sour mood and Benny’s much overplayed Song of the Week is not helping.
“Part of the game, man,” Benny replies casually.
“It’s a stupid part,” Sacha decides. “Think about it: it’s a no-win situation. If it gets past the wall, then they’ll likely score. If it doesn’t get past the wall, then it hits us!”
“Wow.” Benny grins and looks up from Sacha’s laptop. “Those’re some deep thoughts right there. Ready to share that on the next Audio Diary?”
“Oh, shut up.”
