*out of hobbit earshot, hopefully* What a tiny place. Still, more comfortable than a tree. Having solid earth around one is...helpful to my rest. *smiles at Curufin* Don't you find it so?

*smiles at his father* It is tiny, but well constructed. I have found that to be true as well.

I thought dinner was too public to discuss the matters that lie between us. Son.

*wonders how to read that 'son'* Yes, you are quite right.

Very well. What are your intentions with my grandson?

*frowns* My journey was uneventful. I am a bit tired but am otherwise fine. How have the years treated you?

Well enough.

*eyes flash* Answer the question.

*stalls, staring out a window, watching his son staggering walking to another smial* Why did I think this would work?

What are your intentions? What do you plan to make him? He is not cut out to be a warrior.

He is cut out to be a craftsman though.
Better cut than you, I might add.

He is. But you have seen--he cannot be taught the way you taught us. He needs greater care and handling.

*is not going to cry determined not to let his father goad him--yeah, right* I was good enough before.

Don't take it personally, Curufinwe. I am proud of you for reaching your full potential. I am frustrated with him for not reaching his.

There are very few craftsmen now who are great enough to teach him. Mahtan, maybe. Certain dwarf smiths who are now dead. And me.

*frowns at the backhanded compliment* Your frustration will not help him. He wants to learn, but you are not the easiest to learn from.

If I am not good enough to take part in furthering his education, why do you want me around?

His artistic education is not the only area in which he is lacking though the most important. After all, surely you were planning on doing something with him.

Do share.

In what other areas would you instruct him?

I simply wanted to reconnect with him. It is not unusual for a father to want to get to know his son.

*watches Curufin* No.

*leans against a wall* I believe he would be willing to learn from you as long as you try to be less scary, but...I must be a part of his life, regardless.

What do you want from me?

If you must be a part of his, it follows that I must be a part of yours. Does it not.
