Coning

I used to have two friends (I won’t name names) that believed very strongly in the ear wax candle, or coning-a candle you stick in your ear that, when lit, creates a suction that supposedly sucks all the wax from your inner ear.  They used them all the time and swore that they could hear better after each use.  They tried to get me to use it, and being the cynical bastard I always am, laughed at the notion.  I used to say to them:  “There’s no way I’m putting a candle in my ear that’s been stuffed through the middle of a paper plate.  I mean, come on.  It’s too stupid to be real, man.”

Well, today I discovered that the ear candle is a fraud.  It’s quackery at its finest disguised as an “alternative” cure.  The suction an ear candle produces is by no means strong enough to suck ear wax from the inner canal of your ear.  Also, wax in your ear’s canal is supposed to be there and works its way out by itself.  Ear wax is a natural occurrence for your ear’s protection and health.

I also discovered that urine therapy doesn’t cure anything either.  Gee, I was, like, really considering that too.  Don’t get me started.
