OOC: Ceci n'est pas un backstory
(I really want this to be consistent with canon, so if you see a canon error, logical slipup or have any suggestions, please comment.)
* Right from the beginning, Matsuda is suspected: L gives him the "I think you're Kira" test. (Does Light know about the Kira test? I don't think so - but I'm willing to bet that he can extrapolate that if L thought someone was Kira, he was going to bring it up with them.)
* L suspected someone on the team of being Kira, but it was not Light.
* Light is not Kira. Obviously.
* He met Misa through her involvement with somebody else on the team.
* Near was the second L, not the third.
* Near suspected Kira of being someone within the team, but never named names.
* As far as Light knows, all the people in the warehouse died of Kira - including himself.
* Higuchi is caught as in our timeframe, and still dies on schedule (to Matsuda?)
* Rem's Death Note passes into the hands of the task force.
* Near still investigates, the whole thing with the mafia still takes place, and Sayu is still kidnapped. The raid still happens, Soichiro still does the eye deal, and dies.
* Mikami is still X-Kira, who, known only to Near and the SPK, shows up at the warehouse and kills them all - having thought up the notebook swap himself. Because of this, Light knows his name (revealed by Near), but hasn't had any close contact with him. Mikami is still called in before they all die. When asked, Light will say reluctantly that he only met "his" Mikami once - which has the benefit of being true.
* Takada is still kidnapped by Mello and Matt. Light still goes to her on the pretext of getting her help with the investigation. She dies on schedule.
* Wild horses will not drag out of Light that the person he phoned Near about, the team member who might have been Kira, was Matsuda.
