Position & Ship (first and second choice for position please): Navigator for the Fiertia is my first choice. If not that, then Navigator for the 4423. (I will change the history if necessary.)
Appearance: Akito isn't a tall woman, but she is imposing. She keeps her hair boyishly short and cut in jagged lines around her aristocratic face. In fact, unless she chooses to reveal her true gender, she can be easily mistaken for a boy. She finds it easier to pass as such, and will oftentimes wrap a bandage around her chest to conceal her breasts. As long as she wears relatively dark and/or baggy shirts, no one will be the wiser.
Beyond looking boyish, Akito tends to look unwell. Her health is very poor, and she battles high fevers from time to time. If her cheeks are flushed and her eyes glassed, it is a fair bet to assume she has another fever. Her illness ensures she also doesn't gain much weight - if any at all. Therefore she remains thin and her hormones are not produced in the proper amounts. This is the main reason she looks the way she does.
Personality: The first thing that should be known about Akito is that her temper is short. She doesn't have patience for idiocy or people standing in her way. Her family comes first and foremost and anyone who tries to integrate themselves into these chosen few, she will rake over the coals before lighting their emotions on fire. In fact, even if they don't try to integrate into her family, she will not trust them to be around those she supposedly "loves". Anyone having happiness in her household when she herself is so miserable is intolerable. So it follows that anyone who causes this unwarranted happiness has to be gotten rid of at any cost.
The second major part of Akito's personality is her vindictive nature. Not only will she get rid of the people trying to invade her family, but also the ideas that attempt to do the same thing. If one of her family members argues against her or defies her, she will wreak vengeance upon their head no matter what age they happen to be. Akito does not possess any softness for youth or any illnesses outside of her own. Life for her is a struggle, and those who dominate it: win.
Lastly, as if this weren't clear through her over-protectiveness and defensiveness, Akito is an emotional wreck. If the right wires are plucked through conversation or actions (i.e. one of her family member's being hurt or someone showing immense sympathy towards her), Akito will dissolve into tears. She is not too old to forget the pangs of being a child, but she is old enough to be bitter. She hates the lot life has given her and she rails against it with all of her might. In the end, she knows she won't win. But if people hate her then she won't feel guilty about dying, now will she?
Abilities/Weapons: Akito is exceptionally good at reading people, and despite her frail appearance, she does possess quite a bit of physical strength. She is skilled at karate, but her fevers tend to get worse if she over strains herself in a battle.
How well can your character hack?: Moderately well. She uses this ability to keep an eye on her family.
Weaknesses: Her health, of course. It is an undiagnosed illness, and most of the time, she has to plow through it with rest and shots used to cure the symptoms temporarily.
Connected to her health is her emotion stability. When she is feeling weaker, she is apt to snap and snarl at anyone who even looks her way. This habit comes from feeling like a subordinate to her mother, Ren. She thinks that the best way to appear superior is to brutalize her relationships with other people. But she is not daft enough to not realize that this also pushes people away from her. She has come to expect that, and even welcome it in her own bitter way.
As far as battles are concerned, Akito does not like to concern herself with them. She would much rather order her family around to defend their honor for her. However, she can lash out nastily if the battle is one on one. Despite her illnesses, she is surprisingly strong. She can be quite terrifying when her anger spikes. Yet, each time she lets herself go in that manner, her emotions tend to break and those spells usually end in tears or a high fever.
History: Akito was not born in Berum, but that is where she was raised. Medical care was more available in the larger city, and thus Akito remembers Berum as her first (and truly only) home. Living in Vohemar has never been easy, but it has taught Akito to be tough. In fact, it is the reason she started dressing like a boy. Despite being 20, she has not seen any reason to right these views concerning her. To the public, Akito Sohma is a boy.
Her childhood was not good. Despite being kept alive using the supplies found in Berum, Akito was not a happy child. She grew up in a hostile environment where both of her parents were, needless to say, not sane. Her mother ended up sleeping with the first man Akito ever loved, and her father did nothing to cushion the blow. It was around that time that Akito's mother (Ren) forced her to dress as a boy. Akito did so diligently, her heart breaking each time her hair was cut short or her pretty kimonos taken away from her and replaced with boy's clothes. Akito has never felt pretty, and this is probably the reason why.
Escaping the awkward confine of her parent's household after Ren's unfortunate death, Akito decided on a change of venue entirely. Boarding her first ship, she worked her way up, learning the skills required to be a Navigator with ease. Akito has been on many ships in her short life, but it has become harder and harder for her to endure the voyages. When the Fiertia came along, she made a deal with the Captain which included her medicine being kept on board so that there was no need for her to die or for them to make any emergency stops on land.
Akito pulls her own weight on the ship. Even when she is fevered, she can sit with the maps and come up with coherent, logical plots for the ship to travel next. She enjoys her job, but most of all: she enjoys being away from the family members she hates. Those she doesn't hate, she does her best to keep an eye on through the journals. But even they slip through her fingers, which is unbearable for one as possessive as herself. They will pay for their negligence one day. She will simply be patient.
