Let's raise our glasses to these faintly falling ashes.

I finally have the internet!!! YES!!!!! After a week of having no online communications and little use of my cell phone because of the cost, I was starting to feel a bit out of touch with the rest of the world!!

Things have been pretty good so far. I caught a stomach flu and unfortunately threw up my first real Italian meal and then proceded to spend the next two days spilling my guts on your favorite blue jeans. I finally started eating deliciousness again on Monday.

Besides that, Florence is amazing! The night we arrived could not have been a better way to start the semester. When we got out of the cab in our "neighborhood" there were tons of Christmas lights strung across the streets. It was absolutely beautiful! After we hauled up our luggage we found a place to eat in the town center. We found a restaurant with outdoor seating (they had space heaters and blankets on each chair) that had pizza and a beer/wine for 10 euro. The scene was beautiful - a giant lit Christmas tree, carousel, and even a woman in the courtyard singing opera. It was crazy, sexy, cool, also pretty romantic, if I wasn't with 3 chicks. However, I have noticed Katie giving me the eye lately. She painted me a portrait. It was sexual and violent. Our 5th floor apartment is in the center of the city, and we're in the same building as KSU, so we have to just walk around the corner to go to school. We're also a short walk away from the Duomo, as well. I can't wait to see the David! The gals and I have been walking around everyday getting to know our way around the city, seeing the typical tourist-y stuff, etc.

We started our conversational Italian class this week (4 hours a day), and a whole bunch of orientation meetings keep us busy. Classes start Monday.

We haven't had hot water at all, so showers have been few and far between. The water we do have smells like bleach. We finally got a repair man in yesterday morning to fix the hot water tank. To my disappointment, he was not wearing red overalls, didn't have a thick greasy mustache, and did not appear from a giant green pipe. I was almost sure that stereotype had to have some truth to it.

Today we took a little journey over to a giant two floor indoor market which was about a 10 minute walk away. It was pretty sweet. I purchased some tasty dried fruit to snack on and this delicious after dinner drink called Limoncello. It's a lemony tasting liquor. Fabulous! The first floor of the market had mostly meats on it. It kind of creeped me out seeing skinned rabbits and pigs in the windows, and it also smelled like PetsMart.

That's most of what's happening so far. There's a group of us getting together to go to Pisa and Lucca on Saturday for the day. Phallic pictures should be posted shortly after.

I love you all and miss you like whoa.

Hugs and Misses,
<3 Kirs
