I believe it's a spin kick. A rather risky move to pull off in battle if you ask me.

Yeah, I agree. Unless you can execute it fast enough. Otherwise it leaves you open for attack.

It takes less effort to use a sword, and it does more damage. I'm not sure why he would use a spin kick for any reason other than to show off.

The video led me to believe that he's not the kind to do something like that, but I suppose I can't argue with the evidence.
