The most basic thing - or at least some of the basic things people should be able to cook are the following: rice and instant noodles. Deriving from the 'rice' category is fried rice and porridge.
My first year away from home, my fried rice often became sticky-mushed-up-rice. And my 'special' let'ssimplytrysomething steam rice (which meant adding in egg with the water) became ...steamed-egg-rice (which wasn't half bad, srsly).
But now, I have totally mastered the art of fried rice.

deviantART I realized that most photos of porridge don't look very mouth-watering.
Hmm, still a little tricky. On my third attempt, I failed miserably. I added more water two times and still it looked more like sticky rice tht's meant to be wrapped up in leaves to be reborn again as dumplings.
And no, I don't follow recipes. That may be where I got it wrong. Σ\( ̄ー ̄;)
So, to my future boyfriend slash husband. To qualify, you MUST know how to cook porridge without having to start cooking it 2 hours before so you can keep adding water (like me). I can be the one who fries the rice. (#⌒∇⌒#)ゞ
