I agree, the Red Cross is the best appeal to donate to.

I'm feeling devastated by the weekend's events, and what a great irony that while Queensland is drowning Victoria and parts of NSW are being burned beyond recognition. Even though I still miss my former home very much, events like this make me glad that we moved into town 3 years ago. We went through one fire while we lived in the bush, luckily it was brought under control as it surged up the hill behind us, but we were both in a state of shock for a week after it. There was almost no loss of property in that one, as people remained with their homes to protect them, but clearly this recent fire was on of much greater ferocity.

Keep space cleared around your house! Have you guys got your fire plan ready?

Our fire plan, after the devastation we have witnessed, is to leave early. We just grab the cat, the wallet, a change of clothes and go ... anything else is expendable.

G'day Bill. I was browsing journals, happened by yours.
I'm right amoungst the bushfires - very lucky that the wind changed direction before it got to us. I was interested to read your 'whole of Australia is transfixed...' statment and stopped to acknowledge it.
Lisa.

Thanks Lisa It was pretty close to home for us too because my partner has a nephew with his wife and kids living in Healesville.

I thought the service this morning was very well-handled.
