Chapter Three -
When Dick woke up tied to a chair he didn’t panic. This wasn’t the first time after all. Actually, it was the sixth if he remembered correctly. Which he might not, Robin considered, since his head felt like someone took a sledge hammer to it.
Letting out a tiny groan, Dick’s head rolled back a little so he could look at the ceiling while his vision cleared. Since the ceiling of the room he was in was different than the ceiling of the building he had just been in Robin could guess that Joker moved them. That meant he planned on keeping them for a bit- or he already had- and didn’t want Batman to find them.
It was fine, Robin had his… utility… belt…
Apparently he didn’t, because when Dick looked down there was no yellow belt synched around his waist. Shit. Taking a deep breath, the thirteen year old let his head roll back again, closing his eyes. At least his mask was still on. Robin would check out of reflex but his wrists were tied down. Of course.
A little whine to his right caught Boy Wonder’s attention and he looked over, panic and relief hitting him when he spotted his friends all tied up on the ground. For a moment Robin wondered why he was the only one in the chair but the answer came pretty quick. Joker wanted him, not them, they were just a bonus for the freak.
Robin was the main event.
Lucky him.
Superboy was awake but he looked extremely weak. His face was pale and eyes drooping. If Robin had to guess he’d say it had something to do with the kryptonite. Next to him M’gann was knocked out, her body slumped forward, head down so he couldn’t see her face. Dick could see her chest moving up and down with each breath she took though so at least he knew she was alive. Beside her was Kaldur, tied in chains instead of rope. Their eyes met but Aqualad couldn’t talk because of the gag in his mouth.
Robin let his eyes move to KF- the one who made the sound- as he slowly woke up, making Artemis wake up beside him as well. They both groaned and tried to move and when found they couldn’t, glanced around. Artemis was just tied by rope and not even gagged. It was most likely because she was human and without her arrows just as useless as Robin was without his utility belt.
Wally was tied down as well with what seemed to be wire that held him. The wire looked odd to Dick, different. Robin’s curiosity was answered when KF didn’t hesitate and started moving his arms at hyper speed. Suddenly, he cried out in pain and stopped- Robin didn’t miss the binds tightening around him on their own. Damn. It must be some special wire that Joker got his mitts on (if he could get kryptonite, he could get anything apparently) that tightened when someone struggled making Wally’s super speed useless unless he wanted his limbs snapped off. So, he was just a simple human now too. Except, he wasn’t gagged.
“Don’t fight the bonds, Wally.” Robin croaked, voice raspy. His tongue felt dry and thick, like it had gotten swollen somehow. At least he could breathe.
“I figured.” The speedster grounded out. “Know where we are?”
“Nope.” Robin dragged his gaze to Superboy, hoping the clone was lucid. “SB, can you hear anything remotely helpful?” He was quiet for a moment and then, finally, there was a little jerk of his. No.
So, either Supey’s hearing was down due to kryptonite or the room was sound proofed. Robin doubted Joker took them out of Gotham.
Jerking at his own bonds, Dick noticed that the metal chair he was in was bolted to the floor. Naturally. He tried to rock back and forth, assess if a bolt was loose, but none were and he didn’t budge. Glancing at the rope around his wrists and ankles Robin gave a jerk but nothing happened. Whoever tied him up secured him good. Robin didn’t even have room to rub his wrists raw and use the blood to slip free.
Dammit all.
Suddenly, the door in front of him clicked open and Robin (and every teammate that was awake and lucid) looked to it. Robin wasn’t at all surprised when Joker walked in, a camcorder on top of a tripod under one arm and a baton shaped taser in the other. Smiling but silent, Joker set the camera up, making sure it was far enough away to get Robin and the others in sight.
“We’re going to make a little movie- well show.” Joker recited, “A game show of sorts.” He laughed, looking towards Robin with an unsettling look. “This video is for little ‘ol Justice League which it’s sending a feed to. I can get a hacker, too, Bats.” The last part Joker seemed to mutter to himself. “Oh, and before you go getting excited it’ll take them a long time to get through and find where we are- I made sure of it. By that time our little game with be… over.” He grinned. “By the way, I accidentally smashed your little belt into pieces. Sorry, kiddo.”
Robin knew he was lying and his heart sunk. Batman had put a tracking device in it. At first, Robin had been angry when he did that but after it saved his life the first few times Boy Wonder learned to love it. Apparently, Joker caught on to that.
“Now, Boy Blunder- Boy Blunder’s team- Smile for the camera!” And with that a little red light flickered on.
