WINONA LaDUKE came to Kzoo and talked on Thursday! She's such an amazing woman...she's a native-american activist, environmentalist, and writer, she ran for vice-president of the green party in 1996 and 2000, won woman of the year by Ms. magazine in '97, and was one of Time's 50 most promising leader's in '94! I can't believe she was here and she was great! EnvOrg sponsored her, so we got to talk to her in a smaller group before her big talk...
SO, now I want to change the world! 2 of the best quotes from her talk were: "your gonads are not gonna shrink if you stop driving pick-ups!"
"if you're working on something you plan on finishing in your lifetime, you're not thinking big enough"
Of course, after being all inspired by Winona I had to focus and work on a presentation for Islam in Africa forever in the library...it went really well though, so I guess it was worth it...
Saturday Lindsay and I went to Jenny's house for Easter! It was very relaxing...we ate lots of good food, lots of chocolate, ran in the woods, watched Grease, and got Easter baskets :) I wonder why we started celebrating Jesus' resurrection with candy and dyed eggs? I don't think I get the connection...I mean I'm not complaining, but...
oh man, this bassoon is going to be the death of me...I have 3 new notes and they're high, but the fingering is the same as the low notes, so I have to adjust my lips and mouth to get the right pitch...I thought you only had to do that for brass instruments and reed instruments just have a lot of different fingerings for the notes and usually have an octave key? but I guess the bassoon is just so sweet it has lots of keys AND you have to adjust your mouth to get the right pitch!
Love and miss you all HEAPS! xoxo
