My hair makes babies cry

I'm fixing to start college in a few months, and I'm looking for a way to keep my curl, and still have an easy, manageable hairstyle/regime/whatever. Unfortunately, my hair is the kind that you wear sunglasses around because the glare from the ammount of frizz could permanantly blind you. Have you spoken to your brother about his hair care routine for some tips? I would have loved to have a fellow curly-haired family member!

Here are my tips:

1. A good haircut that will take some of the weight off the back and bottom of your hair. You don't have to lose any of the length if you don't want to, but you definitely need some texture there. My personal tip: Specifically ask for a stylist with curly hair or who has experience working with natural curls. It's too easy for someone with little curly-experience to give you a shitty cut.

2. Moisturize. Frizz happens when hair seeks out moisture from the air, and it will not do that if it already has enough moisture. As others have said, shampoo is the enemy. Only do it once a week, at most. Condition your hair every day, and put a leave-in conditioner in your hair while it's damp.

3. Avoid damaging your hair by staying away from heat (e.g. flat irons) and by towel drying properly. When you towel dry, you should blot and "scrunch" your hair, not rub the towel all over it, because that causes damage, which leads to more frizzing. Once your hair is no longer dripping and doesn't drench the back of your shirt, detangle with a comb (never a brush!), add your leave-in, then air dry. Some people scrunch some gel into their hair for more definition while it's still damp, but that's not my style. You may like doing this, though! I like to flip my head over and give my hair a nice tousle for extra body.
