anyone here with very fine but thick hair? as in, each individual strand is fine but you have lots of strands. i'd love to know your washing and product routine.

my hair is totally this way. i typically don't shampoo it more than every few days to avoid drying it out...if it does need a wash between those days, i do so with conditioner only. i prefer using the moisturising shampoo and conditioner from tresemme, though sunsilk (de-frizz) and garnier fructis (strengthening) are just fine.

i detangle right after washing it and then run my fingers through it with tresemme curl care mousse, and that's usually all i need to keep it under control, though that part depends on what kind of curls you have i guess :)

I'm not totally sure that I have this going on, but it did just dawn on me that hairdressers never say "wow you have thick hair" because they're always busy saying "man you have A TON of hair" which leads me to believe that it's not particularly THICK but definitely numerous.

I wash with Dove or whatever volumizing shampoo/conditioner I can get my hands on, then I let it towel/drip dry until it's not dripping everywhere, then I work in a handfull of VO5 Curvaceous Curls mousse and a frizz-smoothing cream that Herbal Essences used to make before the packaging change (but I still find it in stores occasionally). I'm not completely opposed to having a layer of fluff as long as the top looks ok. Sometimes in the middle of the day I'll lose all signs of volume so the sides are fluffy, so I'll move the part in my hair to the other side and re-scrunch with a little water.

I started the no poo thing. It's working fine, now that I've gotten past the hair freaking out phase. I suppose it would be scalp freaking out, since the hair itself doesn't produce oil. Anyway. I've recommended Murray's pomade to many people. It's tricky, you can't put too much, or you look like a greaseball. But once you've found the right amount to put in, it's wonderful. No crunchy hair from hardened gel and mousse, just shiny, lustrous, curly tendrils. Yar. Oh. I have long layers, too.
