What color is your hair now, and what is your natural color? Has it been previously dyed or otherwise treated with chemicals (straightened, highlighted, etc.), and is there any remaining color/chemical left on your hair? What is your skin coloring, are you cool- or warm-toned? The reason I ask is because black dye can look very harsh on some skintones, and if you use a dye on hair that has already been chemically processed the color can "grab" at those areas (because of porosity) and look dull and drab (and further dry your hair ( ... )

wow that was a lot of information, tahank you very much.
well i have more of warm toned skin but i've always seemed to be somwhere in-between---not waaarm but not really cool either..i'm about NW25ish (MAC). my natural hair is dark dark olive brown my hair has been dyed a reddish color that has faded so it's not really brown or red. i'll definitely look into the garnier line though
thank you for all the information, really!

I think I'd recommend the lighter of the two shades, the # 40. =)

hmm I actually really liked #30 but you say that that is darker?

Yes, the lower the number, the darker the color. And, it's always easier to go from lighter to darker than the other way around. Try a dark brown shade first, and if it's still not as dark as you want, you can always go darker.

Also, these are permanent dyes (after reading everyone's recommendations here that you not use a permanent color, I wasn't sure if I'd misread your post and you were actually looking for a semi-permanent color).

I'm beginning to think that it just might be better for me to not dye my hair because I dont' want my hair to become more damaged and I was hoping there would be a way that I could dye my hair minus the damage lol
