I hope I made this clearer. Does this help?

funky. really funky.

Long-term, I'd suggest wiping the hard drive and reinstalling windows (hopefully, upgrading to Windows XP, which generally has fewer of these sort of problems).

But for now, you can try System Restore to switch system settings to what they were a few days ago. You should be able to get to it by clicking Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Restore. Select a bold date a few days ago, then follow the screens through by clicking Next at the appropriate times.

As soon as you get that running, I'd suggest copying all the files you want to somewhere else. (Do you have a CD burner?) Because I'm not feeling so good about your computer not dying a horrible(r?) death in the next week or two.

Are you still living in WayTheHeckUpThereSomewhere? 'Cause I'd like to swing by, but would have to negotiate car use etc.

Quick query: I have wanted XP for a while and I have heard I need the full version because the update version is crappier. If this is true, would you recommend I go to a place I know to buy it (and spend lots more) or would you get it off a random seller on the internet (by doing a search for sellers of XP)? I really want XP but I am wont to pay $200 for it.

I would love to have you come on over (AND HANG OUT TOO). And, I would be absolutely willing to pick you up and drop you off. (the least I can do). I might even be willing (hint, hint) to play Boggle. If you would like we can even invite the Bitty and the Blond. Maybe watch a game at the same time!

So, we could kill two birds at one time (or some stupid colloquialism like that)

What works for you?

really quick, cause I'm at work, but still need to scratch that geek itch:

You're right that you don't want to install an upgrade version of XP over a previous version of Windows. However, you can still buy the upgrade version of XP, but then install it "clean" (by just "proving" that you own a previous version of Windows, say, by inserting an original install disk that came with your computer).

So you'll be fine buying the "upgrade version" of XP.

More later.

so. Been a ditz recently, forgot to respond again, tried to email you today (not sure if it went through - was from my cell phone), lost your phone #.

In any case, Bitty's up for a ride up there too. Since I have a message appointment (hi mattlistener!) in Somerville, I figure we could swing by on one side of that. Um...howzabout the later side, come to think of it. :-)

So whaddaya say to us swinging by around 5pm tomorrow? We could obviously do another time too. (Early next weekend, which is Memorial Day weekend already oh my god? Say, last minute Boggle practice? :-)

Hugs. Um, email aprokosch-pager@tsne.org if you don't have my phone number, and I can call you back. (paranoid about posting my phone #, sorry)
