Birthday Weekend

It's nice having a 3-day weekend around or in this case during my birthday. My birthday weekend went as follows:

Fri. night-Sun. morning: Spent at my friend Kris' cabin. Met new friends Meghan and Jason. Pretty nice couple. Had bobcat adventure.

Bobcat adventure: So Kris' cabin is in BFE Southern MO (aka South of Fredericktown, MO), which backs up to Mark Twain National Forest. So there is a lot of wildlife such as bobcats and the occasional bear. I have still yet to see a bear. Anyway, seeing wildlife is part of the experience. But on Sat. night, my friend Scott took a ride on the ATV, and came back with a ripped up T-shirt. I knew something was definitely wrong when the normally even-keeled, somewhat macho-type looked visible shaken. At first the others thought this was part of an elaborate prank he and I had cooked up. But no one was joking. Apparently while riding he had been jumped by what we presume was a bobcat (He never saw it coming or going.) When I investigated his back, there were visible cat-like scratches, but he was not bleeding. (It is not normal for bobcats to attack, so I was now worried about rabies, because diseased animals do. Of course, the reaction was "Well, if I start foaming from the mouth, take me to a hospital.")So now we had animals acting out of the ordinary and attacking. I was not about being outside any longer, but I stayed with the boys by the fire and then there was a noise in the woods, and the took off like a shot, guns in tow. I heard several shotgun/rifle shots and then I saw the green eyes in front of me. Boys came back fast. 6 rounds were fired, but the next morning no blood or trace was found. So a little more excitement than I bargained for. I did have fun enjoying nature and playing on ATV.

Sun night, Blues Festival (www.bigmuddyblues.com): Saw John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers. AWESOME! The Blues Festival in past years have definitely made me have a thing for harmonica players. Danced around a lot. Caught some of The Inner City Blues Band and some other long-haired redneck looking band. All were good.

Mon. (birthday): Took a drive with my mom and grandma to Wine Country, Augusta, MO. Ate lunch and had samples at Montavel. Shopped some stores in downtown Augusta. Acquired a purse. Continued on wine tour and then went to parents' for dinner and ice cream cake. Opened presents and spent time with the rest of the family. Watched Aidan, nephew, climb tree, a very big accomplishment.

All and all, I had a very well-rounded birthday weekend. A bit of everything and very nice.
