Mensa weekend in Miami

May 30, 2005 19:49

We arrived in south Florida (me, w, doug, and Karen, and my dog Grace) at 4 p.m. Friday. The event was at a Sheraton AllSuites hotel.

I sat in Hospitality all Friday as I was dying from a headache that had come over me quite suddenly while we were on the road. I napped a little, ate some (Joanne, the hospitality chairman, had cooked). I could not shake the headache, so I kept a low profile and had a lovely time talking with Ann and John and dozens of others, just renewing acquaintances and enjoying hugs.

Saturday was great...I awoke with no traces of a headache. I dashed to hospitality to put on coffee and help put out doughnuts and made egg-mc-muffins. Around 10 I did cursory cleanup and dashed to the games room, where I emerged only for sustanance 18 hours later.

Sunday I was again awake at 6:30. I put on coffee for the group and walked Grace, and helped the hospitality lady get stuff out for breakfast. There were a steady stream of breakfasteaters until 11, at which time we started gearing up for lunch. Since the hospitality lady had to go hom to put her lasagnas into the oven, I stayed and hosted lunch, and cleaned up. When I got hospitality cleaned up, the lasagnas arrived. We served dinner at 7 and I cleaned up at 9. OMG, the hottub felt good.

Monday was bagles and doughnuts and the remnants of chips, etc. I made coffee, walked Grace, and got it all together.

We wanted to leave before the awards banquet, but Robbie made us stay. Karen got two hugging awards (People's choice and from Phil) and I got the "Sweet Leon" award for volunteering in hospitality.

Home at 4 to collapse.
