Title: Daniel wouldn't have believed
Author: Mary-Jane Doe (curlaw)
Genre: drabble
Pairing: none
Rating: K
Authors note(s): (I) A drabble, to me, is between 100 and 500 words. Anything shorter is a snippet, and anything longer is a ficlet. (II) I don't know why, but this drabble - in the form of a thought - lodge itself in my head and demanded to be written. It's short and not very coherent, but I actually like it, nonetheless.

If someone had told Daniel one year ago that "one year from now the commander of SG-1 will cook a mean Risotto," Daniel wouldn't have believe him. Jack was the worst cook in two galaxies - and counting - far worse than Rodney McKay, who had once food poisoned a whole science department with canned fruit salad...

If someone had told him that "one year from now Jack O'Neill will leave the SGC to play around with the big brass in Washington - and he'll cheat Sam out of her first command," Daniel wouldn't have believed him.

But Jack did leave for D.C., and Sam didn't get SG-1.

If someone had told him that "one year from now SG-1 will be lead by someone with a perfect record," Daniel wouldn't have believe him.

But SG-1 went to a young hotshot with a complete record, and it felt natural for everyone to follow Jack's example and move on. Teal'c had to help build the Free Jaffa Nation, Sam could finally start a real life and spend as much time as she pleased on science alone, and Daniel, he could finally go to Atlantis like he had always dreamt of.

But, it was harder to leave the SGC than he first had thought, because Daniel hadn't taken into account the hidden factors - the universe needed saving, again, and the young hotshot pilot wouldn't take no for an answer.

And, when it all came down to it, Daniel wasn't all that sorry for missing out on Atlantis, because Mitchell did cook one Hell of a Risotto.
