Yesterday was Messy Church day. Our theme was a harvest one of'Giving thanks for God's creation'. I used a book called God's Very Colourful Creation for the story and we took our ideas from that. You can see what the book is like - this is one of the pages..
There are quite a lot of pictures so I will put them under a cut -
I helped children turn cupcakes into owls... part of God's creation associated with the winter evenings;
Jackie helped make pictures of trees in autumn colours, printed using the middles from loo rolls!
Anne helped make all sorts of creatures from autumn leaves.
Who could resist Nikko's multi-eyed leaf monster? :)
Sandie helped to make cards that said 'Thank you for the rain' from cup cake cases - here are Emily and Petra making theirs -
Linda took on some kits to make autumn lanterns to say thank you for light. These were hard work, my sister had made some in the past and these were the kits she had left! The cut out pictures that were then backed with coloured cellophane were of owls, and leaves, and an assortment of creatures.
And Kirsteen celebrated the food harvest - and people!!
There was white bread and brown bread, cheese, ham, butter, raisins, and piping icing for faces. Rather a lot of them got eaten on the spot - this was the only one I managed to capture on camera!
As well as the story, we sang 'Thank you God for this fine day' - which you can just keep adding verses to - so we asked the children to suggest things - so our verses included 'for games and sports', 'for fish and chips', 'for sweets and treats' (clever alliteration for a 9 year old that!), and 'coats and boots'.
Then, when it came time to eat together, after the savoury stuff, Linda had made shortbread including stars - and ducks!
And Gail and her son (an engineer in his mid 20's who loves decorating cup cakes) - had made these!
It was a lovely afternoon.
