I went to a joint churches service for Maundy Thursday - it was very, very, long... I did not go to the Good Friday joint service, I'm afraid.
However, I have been inspired by
wiseheart to do a bit of Easter baking.
So here are some iced biscuits;
The yellow chicks and the rabbits are for the Sunday Schoolers - and the 3 decorated egg shapes are examples for them as there are some egg shapes for them to decorate - the white chick with sprinkles is to show what it would look like if they do that with their eggs.
And a not exactly traditional Simnel Cake;
A Simnel cake is a fruit cake with a layer of almond paste/marzipan baked into it, and another layer on top which is flashed under the grill* for reasons that are lost in the mists of time. But traditionally it would also have eleven balls of marzipan around the edges of the top - one for each faithful disciple. But I went for the more modern small chocolate eggs. Mainly, to be honest, because I didn't have enough marzipan!
*Grill as in the thing you make toast under, not the barbeque :)
And today was warm enough that I actually sat out in the garden for my coffee - the first day all week that it wasn't raining. This was the view from my seat on the decking;
Already the plants are beginning to look settled. There are already some flowers, too, although not visible in that shot; yellow broom, periwinkles, hellebores and some scabious. Is it only me or does scabious sound like the name of a small, disreputable, goblin to anyone else, too?
