There are a lot of buds on the red roses near the house now - this is the first to begin to open. It always takes that first one a long time and it doesn't always open fully - but it is still good to see it! And earlier than the first rose last year by about 2 weeks.
Beside it the peony buds are unfurling now - again this is the very first one - and if I had taken the pictures today, rather on Thursday, there are more and even bigger ones already. Looking back, this time last year they were still only quite tight buds, so again maybe about 10 days ahead of last year.
and just outside the back door I see this -
Where the honeysuckle flowers are opening in amongst the clematis. It does smell gorgeous.
This is the first of the petunias to open out the back;
At the front of the house, the black petunias from last year have over-wintered and are also in flower - I must remember to take a picture of them sometime, too.
Back to the back garden and the aquilegia (Grandma's bonnets!) are now in flower -
Sadly today is a bit grey and overcast and not a day for sitting out there - I potted up a couple of things after lunch then came back in!
