Messy Church!

It was a warm, busy, day on the small island yesterday - there was a Pride Event in a park in Douglas, a Party Day in the park in Onchan - and it was our Messy Church day. With all that going on we thought we might not get anyone at all at Messy Church, even though it was the first since last year due to lockdown.

It was quieter than usual, but there were 4 families and the eight children enjoyed themselves - as did the parents who brought them.

Our theme was 'Made in the image of God' - you can get a taste of the 'story' part of the afternoon if you look here at the wonderful Lost Sheep site. For a look at the crafty bits

The quiet, 5 minutes before we were due to start;

Making a scraper-foil frame that then had a mirror tile added to allow the children to see their own image;

Here is a finished one -

Making something from lolly sticks and wool that was a bit tangential - the final piece of work is called 'The Eye of God' and is basically a good luck token. My niece Lizzie brought the bits and led it and the kids loved it.

We had simple blank card shapes of children (one with shoulder length hair and a skirt, one with short hair and trousers - a couple of the girls chose the trousered figures as they usually wore them - very suitable for Pride Week really - we left it up to them :) ) You made yourself - just in colours if you wanted or by also adding words about what you liked or didn't like.

We turned plain rich tea biscuits into people - ourselves or someone else - whichever you wanted.

And we made wooden spoon people!

It was a lovely afternoon!
