So today the NYM's mum and I had lunch together in the pub near NYK2's school, then left her car outside it and walked across to the school for the Years 6 & 7 Christmas play; The Stars Come Out For Christmas. With a cast including every child in the two school years it was a major extravaganza.
It was a night on the red carpet for an awards ceremony for the star of Christmas, with two presenters, red carpet interviewers, and a crowd to cheer on their favourites! The nominees for the award were Christmas movies, Father Christmas and his workers, Snow, Christmas dinner, and Christmas trees - all represented by a separate group of children, a song, and a very professional video of the children who were on the stage on the big screen behind them - just like a real awards ceremony.
Then, just as the winner is about to be announced, there is a late entry - The Star of Bethlehem, who now tells the Christmas story, with a cast including sheep and camels(!), and eventually it is decided that the winner is definitely The Star of Bethlehem.
It was fun - including corny cracker jokes from the red carpet interviewer (Holly Berry...), an Angel Gabriel who looked as if a smile had never cracker her face, and a king whose crown seemed to be totally supported from slipping down by his ears!
We will miss these as this is her last year at Primary school. D-d and the NYM were going tonight. We had better weather - it is wet and windy out there this evening!
And when we came out there was an absolutely lovely surprise -
Whilst we had been in the school, the congregation of the church that meets in the pub where we had lunch, had been out and hung hand knitted and crocheted angels on the branches of all the trees and bushes in the area! Each one bearing a label that says 'Please take me, I'm free.' and a note of their Christmas services.
This was the tree outside the pub -
Here is a close-up of one of the angels -
And here, taken when I got home, is a picture of the one I brought home. It will go onto the Christmas tree in the conservatory.
NYK2 took one each for her, her brother, and the NYM and D-d, each carefully chosen!
