Today is the first Sunday in Advent. Here are the Advent candles, ready to be lit.
We also started to make the items for a Jesse tree with the Sunday School children. THis is the basic explanation of a Jesse Tree that we have put beside ours for visitors to the building to know what we are doing -
The Jesse Tree is an Advent tradition.
The first mention of it is over 1,000 years ago.
The Jesse tree is like a family tree for Jesus.. Isaiah prophesied the coming of Jesus as a branch of the house of David - from the root of Jesse.
The first versions started with Jesse - but over time more symbols were added, to start at Adam and Eve.
I didn't take a picture of it - but I will, as we go along!
And I need to finish sorting out the small gifts to go into The Advent Hanging to take it up to D-d et al ready for Tuesday morning - this is the picture I took of it last year. There will be a small gift in each pocket, colour coded so that the four of them take it in turns to open something.
I am also making some Christmas cards with the assorted paper and card I already have in the house. They are very simple, but I did just start with sheets of card and cut out the shapes. Then someone assumed I had bought the wee trees ready made - but I really have done at least a bit of work, honestly.
Next is NYK's 11th birthday on Wednesday. Christmas, like Winter, is coming!
