TT 2019

Jun 02, 2019 20:33

So, we are over half way through the TT Festival for this year, and so far out of a planned 6 practice sessions and a day of racing we have had one practice session. Every other session has been cancelled because of adverse weather. No-one can remember a year as bad.

But each evening we have gone down to church and opened ready for those who were brave enough, or foolhardy enough, to come out to claim a spot to spectate, just in case. And every evening bar Tuesday the session has been cancelled and, after about an hour, we have packed up and gone home.

There are contingency plans to close the roads on the Sundays if required - although only after 12.30pm so people can attend church. Last Sunday they did this to replace the Saturday session missed the night before, and today they did likewise. There should have been racing yesterday, but there wasn't, and there has been so little practice time that lots of people still needed qualifying laps. So today was an afternoon of practice. The sun shone, and the people came out!

So, we began straight after our morning service to serve our usual hot and cold drinks, sandwiches, pasties and cakes.

This is what the crowd was like in our church grounds by 1.30 -

There were probably 200+ people. There are usually more on race days. So you can see why we sell so much home-made cake!

I have been baking since I gt home, and will be off again tomorrow for, we hope, a full day. With a possible evening session to follow. NYK2 wants to come to help - she might find it is more work than she expects :)

For those who don't know/can't remember the annual madness that is the Isle-of-Man TT, here is a link to the description I wrote many years ago - it still sums it up pretty well.
