Here are this week's seven pictures. No particular great significance to some of them, just things that caught my eye - including a rather nice doorway - oh, and there are a couple of bonus ones, too.
So - this is simply something that caught my eye outside what is now an office building, but would originally have been a town house -
I don't know how long they might have been there, inviting boot scraping and helping keep the floors clean - but I rather like them.
A lot of my friends know I can't resist a good doorway - so I'm not sure why I've never taken a picture of this one before!
Wednesday was Knit and Natter day - this is the beginning of a new patchworked blanket - one where I pick up each square from the one(s) beside it so no sewing up at the end! I decided to alternate the knit and purl sides so there would be no 'right' and 'wrong' side. But I think another time I'll leave them all the same way around.
On Thursday I noticed that the clematis in the yard has resurrected itself - it did nothing last year and seemed to have died off, but here are shoots making their way up towards the pear tree trunk -
On
ysilme's journal a few days ago we were talking about book shops and coffee shops and I said it reminded me that I had noticed the independent bookshop in Ramsey had 'grown' a coffee shop. And that I really should go to investigate it. So on Friday S2C and I went up to Ramsey to go to the bank (easiest branch on the island to access!), go to a couple of shops - and have coffee.
This was my pick for pic of the day -
I just love the texture and the sparkle of the gold on my cappucino. S2C, however, said I should take a picture of his toasted crumpet, also golden, shiny, and an interesting texture -
And we did wonder whether they had actually managed to retain space for books, as well as the stationery and cards they stock. The answer is clearly yes -
Sorry - I took them with my phone and I didn't quite have the last one in focus.
But I think they have been very clever - there are other shelves of books as well, and a children's section, but they have acknowledged the change in reading habits of so many of us (S2C and I included) who now read a lot of fiction on screens. But I still buy the paper version of cookery books, history books, local books... anything that is nicely illustrated in fact. And I always buy the proper copies of children's books, too. And these are the books they now concentrate on.
They've also reduced the counter space, moved the 'browsing armchairs' they had into the coffee shop area - and I think they will be able to keep going well now. There were definitely more people in the whole shop than I have seen there in a long time.
On to Saturday. I popped out for a while in the afternoon and on my way home I took this picture of Douglas Bay from a higher spot than usual. I rather like the way the late afternoon light has turned this into an almost black and white study -
Today is, surprise, surprise, a damp grey day. I took this picture of ivy on a wall beside church during a brief moment of sunlight late morning -
So that's that for this week. The 365 project 2015/16 now has 331 pictures in it - almost completed!
I have another chapter of Cushions written, just waiting for S2C to finish betaing it, and a new recipe for February to post as well - they can wait until tomorrow and Tuesday!
