Interesting last words - wonder what prompted him to say that?

He may well clarify in the next chapter.

(And it felt right, I thought, when it occurred to me...)

Typical Spike, stating the obvious!

Well, when you think about it, for most of his life that was what Haldir was doing, dealing out death to those who would harm his people.

He really does have to find something to do, even if it is only as a guard/guide to those who are exploring New Imlardris.

Well, when you think about it, for most of his life that was what Haldir was doing, dealing out death to those who would harm his people.

Exactly. So when I thought about what his answer to such a question would be I realised the slight misquote from Buffy fitted perfectly.

And so, yes, he really needs to find himself an aim in life beyond 'get Rumil and Orophin to see sense and come to heel,' which he has no doubt rethought a little by now!

Love that last line - it rings so true. I also enjoyed Tindome's realization that Rumil had traits in common with his mother. I have had several similar moments of not necessarily welcome enlightenment, myself. *g*

I don't always comment, but I do always enjoy this universe!

Thank you - it is good to know you are reading.

When I thought about whether he had any artistic talent I realised that slight misquote from Buffy was the thing that would come to his mind.

And yes - some moments of enlightenment are less welcome than others :)

Thank you. It is a slight misquote from Buffy - but it occurred to me that it did fit how he would answer if he thought abut talents.

Oh Lord. That opens a whole can of thingies!

What might his talent be? I wondered. And then that line was irresistible...

Of course the odd thing is that it won't mean anything to Tindómë at all. She probably didn't notice Námo quoting Gandalf, either - although she is more likely to have done that, as she has been told a lot about the Fellowship and their quest.

I think it would probably draw a wry smile but then sad memories of a sister who leapt off a tower to save her. How far is Tindome from those memories now I wonder? Do they make her sad?

And Haldir. How far have they moved on that he recognises exactly what she needs now rather than dismissing her.

I don't remember Buffy talking much about death being her gift when Dawn was around - so her memory of it will be fairly vague, I reckon.

And yes - the relationship between the two has, most certainly, moved on a log way. This trip is something they will always share together - the dusting of Spike an even more personal link.
