I said yesterday that I had been writing something that was out of my usual comfort zone - it simply came to me and forced me to write it down ( Read more... )

My Éowyn is certainly pragmatic - hence the line about a husband you don't love who won't want a lot of sex is better than one you don't love who wants it often!

I'm thinking that, once she figured out about the sweat and leather and all (especially that leather glove) they'd be in good shape. Ummm, leather.

She has certainly got that idea in mind - and it is certainly why Théodred suggested it... and in part where the title of the story came from as it contains the lines

(A friend with breasts and all the rest,
A friend who's dressed in leather,)

But she can't be sure he'll want to... especially after she's given birth - it might make her too feminine for him to forget it!

Actually the song is very relevant in a number of places - it also contains the lines A friend who'll tease is better , and

And when she's pressed she will undress,
And then she's boxing clever,

As well as

A friend in needs a friend indeed,
A friend who bleeds is better,

What a wonderful Beta to remember the song, eh?

Talking of my wonderful beta - we have just spent a good long while discussing how the relationship between these three, and the existence of a child, might effect the decisions of all three - how the outcomes could be very different, how Théodred and Boromir might survive... why Éowyn might ride with the Rohirrim anyway, or someone else kill the Witch King... (kicking him in the head would be a good start - it's only the 'hand of man' he's immune to...)

I could certainly be tempted...

Course if she then falls for Faramir it'll be a bit of a bugger... (as the heir to the Steward said to the heir of Rohan...)

ETA - and guess what's on TV here tonight? The Fellowship of the Ring.

Have you ever read the story "No Living Man" You must go read it; it's hysterical...

For her to ride off and kill the Witch King, I think the baby would have had to have died, giving her that same sense of desperation and nothing-to-lose-ness she had with Aragorn. Then she can fall in love with Faramir, introduce him to the pleasures of her leather glove and live pretty much happily ever after.

Hee - I hadn't seen it before, but S2c and I have just had a good giggle at it. He suggested that, whilst they all discussed it, a dying mumakil fell on him...

There are at least two possible threads this could follow - forking further on to give even more - hence the current decision to leave it to your imagination... I can see a reason for her riding with the Rohirrim and leaving her son behind - but then he might die...
