Oh, I have had the most awesomely awful idea ever, and through the techno-magic of e-mail and multi-tab browsing, I have been proactive. This can only end in tears.
The idea: a kink meme. An HP rarepairs kink meme. Because kink memes are brilliant places to find fic and there is a tragic shortage of Draco/Albus Regulus/Remus Pansy/George/JamesJr unusual pairings in the world.
Reasons it is awesome: It is a kink meme. For rarepairs. You know that fic you really want to read about Blaise's torrid affair with everybody? Or that time Charlie taught Teddy to wank? Or...you see where this is going. This is the entire reason kink memes exist; to get those fics written. Long and plotty, short and smutty, kink memes are the shit. This is where you prompt that cracky AU you want to read, or the crossover/fusion you likely won't get from a fest. This is where Eames tells Draco to dream a little bigger or where poor Remus goes out adventuring with Sherlock Holmes. If you've played around at all on an active kink meme, you know it's all about the instant gratification: post a prompt, fill a prompt, everybody wins. Anyway, I've given this more thought than I probably should have and I think it could work...as long as we keep it to rarepairs. Otherwise I think it could get sort of overrun by popular ship requests and thus, fragmented?
Reasons it is awful: Over and above the fact that I'd apparently be responsible for it? Well, HP hasn't had the greatest history with kink memes and it seems a fair number of HP fen don't know much about the kink-memeing process. Also, this is rarepairs, which by definition are not the biggest draws. Then there's the whole deal with meme set-up, like deciding which pairs are "rare" and working out rules--like a warnings policy and defining "kink"--all of which feels like it could so easily be wank-bait if I'm not careful. There are so many things to think about here and I am...sort of figuring it all out on the fly, I guess.
