burnt bottoms

Hi,
I just made red velvet cupcakes in my boyfriends oven.  The recipe I used (Paula Deen's) said to bake the cupcakes for 20-22 minutes, rotating halfway through.  I rotated them after 10 minutes, then soon afterwards they smelled like they were burning.  They looked fine, but I took them out anyway, and when I lifted one the bottoms were BLACK.

I've baked other things here before and they were fine.

What happened?
