The smell of alcohol followed them into the tent, intoxicating and nauseating. Both of them had consumed too much drink and despite Kurogane's much heavier frame he was as drunk as Fay. They had collapsed into a kiss, passionate, dark in its desperation, and begun to strip each other of clothes in a rush for it to start.
And now Kurogane was on top of Fay, deep inside him, and their moans filled the small space. Opening eyes that had been closed for a quick, brutal kiss, Fay saw his leg against Kurogane's belly, took note of how pale he looked next to the tanned stomach, noticed how the well-developed muscles rippled as Kurogane moved, how their skin glistened with sweat despite the cold of the desert night outside.
Neither of them spoke - it would be pointless in any case - just gasped, moaned, grunted their pleasure.
Fay's eyes closed again, not wanting to meet those searching crimson ones that saw more of him than he wanted to show, that made him want to share everything.
It was better, he thought, now that they couldn't understand each other. Although in their journey so far Kurogane had not tried to force him to spill his secrets, that time would come. And then with some prodding, Fay might tell all. In his daydreams he could almost imagine himself dissolving into tears, Kurogane holding him and whispering words of comfort; but it was only a passing fantasy and he knew neither of them would act this way. He would not cry - if he did, he doubted he would ever stop - and Kurogane's greatest act of comfort was in his strong silence.
And then Kurogane's skilled movements hit that wonderful spot inside him, jolted him out of his thoughts and Fay couldn't think of anything except the pleasure that was threatening to explode any minute. Opening his eyes, their gazes met and Fay found those red eyes not searching but full of emotion and suddenly Fay wanted to give in, to let down all of his barriers and let Kurogane into his heart. Pushing himself up on his elbows he kissed him deeply as they came together. Breathing heavily, they lay there and the afterglow illuminated the truth: it was too late to let his walls down, for like the ninja he was Kurogane had passed them by and Fay's heart was already his.
Stroking the short hair at the nape of Kurogane's neck, a detached part of his mind noticed how soft it was, like a cat's fur. Words he didn't understand were muttered into the crook of his shoulder, soft lips brushing against his skin. And yet, the timing, the vehemence, the passion in those words suggested that Kurogane had just said the words Fay had longed to hear all his life. It made his heart ache, made a smile curve his lips without prompting and without acting.
"I love you," Fay whispered softly, liking the sound of them and liking even better the truth of them. He was in love with his swordsman and it struck him suddenly that it was alright to feel that way.
Since they landed in this strange desert land that crossed over into another world on the full moon, many nights had ended like this, with the two of them falling asleep entangled in each other; and yet Fay knew things would not be the same again. But for the first time, he dared hope that they would be better.
