Now is not the time I should be attempting a crash course in economics. Now is the time I should already be on my way to biology lecture. But its like watching an accident - its horrible, you can't turn away. You feel helpless, and keep wondering what you should have known to prevent, or help. And wondering how to prevent such a horrible accident from happening again.
At least, that's where I'm at currently.
Near as I can tell, a bunch of big businesses took some risks, got burned, and need help to keep going so they can repeat the same trick.
Insanity: doing the same thing and expecting different results.
And yes, it's all more complicated than that. but that's the distillation to my level of economic knowledge... If anyone has some good pointers to crash courses in American economics (did Paulson just *smack* the invisible hand or what?!) I would appreciate it. 'Cuz really, what's been happening, and (especially) what's being proposed goes against my understanding of capitalism. (Granted, my understanding always has been suspect.)
Gah. Now is not a good time for this, but when is EVER a good time? And with the election coming up, my cynicism grows even higher about "national emergencies" leading to interesting (non)transfers of power...
