shao shao
when i walked down the lab, rows and rows and rows of chimpanzees cried out to us.
they looked crazy. perhaps they are.
they looked totally normal, cept that they are in cages.
they looked healthy but we don't know what they eat.
i so wish nobody tipped us off.
chances are if they allowed an inspection, they'll probably know there's nothing we can do to stop them from testing on the animals.
and they are right, not because my team can't do anything. we can appeal or whatever, it just takes lots of paperwork and the right people before this place goes all down.
i pulled roger to the corner and told him we'r not taking up the case.
the team crowded around, the officials stared impatiently.
next to us shao shao, as he wa labled, sat frozen, looking at a tv set. i stepped into her path to block her view of the telly.
she didn't stirred one bit.
i switched the tv off, still her eyes fixed to the tv.
the truth sank in slowly as we realized the chimps , all 56 of them , will be put to sleep if the animal testing were to be stopped.
if we were to intervene, all 56 will die in our hands. if we will not, most probably they can go on living in death.
i voted to put them to sleep.
no one else said a thing.
we will vote again later, o lord, please guide us.
*sorry, they are not chimps, its a mix of baboons and siamangs.
