Harry Potter Fic Exchange Poll

Nov 18, 2009 18:36

aigooism and I were thinking of possibly starting up our own fic exchange. We're both veterans of the HP fandom and we've both participated in countless fic exchanges. I've run fic exchanges before in other fandoms ( Read more... )

Yeah, we were a bit concerned about that. It does seem like just about every fic exchange in the HP fandom has been done already though! Personally, I'd love a Harry/Lucius exchange but I doubt many people would sign up. This poll is partially to see if there are any exchanges that people have always wanted but haven't been created yet. :)

I'd be modding that by myself, I think though. *g* I don't think aigooism is big on Lucius. If this doesn't pan out, I would do it though! I ♥ Harry/Lucius.

It has led to more fics though. But that really isn't a problem in the HP fandom. It's probably more essential to have fic exchanges in smaller fandoms like The Big Bang Theory to encourage more people to write fic. (Gosh, if there was a Big Bang Theory big bang, I would sign up for it SO MUCH)

Although, personally, if there weren't any fests, I probably wouldn't write anything! *g* I'm terrible if I don't work to deadlines!

*nods* I have to admit, I'm doing a bit of that myself. Not for every exchange, but I think I went a little overboard this year and signed up for too many. There are only so many 10K+ fics I can write! For one of the Christmas exchanges I've signed up for, I feel like I'm trying to squeeze water out of a rock. I love the pairing and the prompt but it's just ... everything I'm writing seems rather flat.

I miss the old days of fandom, full stop. It was smaller back then and there was a different dynamic. I think people tended to get more reviews back then too.

I know myself, personally, I need those deadlines. Without a big axe over my head, no matter how much I love a particular bunny, it won't get written....esp. when no one reads your blog or comments. exchanges at least pull readership and encourage commenting, which I think is good for the writers and artists.

The frustration I have is all the fests are generally all in October/November. There's a couple in Jan/feb, then one in spring, and one in summer....but there's a HUge glut in December of new fic...and then months of fic famine afterwords. It depresses me, really. I only write/draw for fandom in Oct/November!

Woah. That is a lot!

Oh, btw, were you thinking of doing the hp_darkfest again next year?

I definitely see a bit of "I wrote this squished between Career Fair and Hd hols" syndrome (speaking from an H/D perspective).

I think it's a bit of a problem with most HP fests. *g* A lot of people go OMG SQUEE and sign up for every fest they're interested in and then go FLAIL PANIC when they realise that it's difficult to write so many fics. I speak from experience. ;)

I'd love to! It might depend on when you're thinking of running it again, but I'm almost positive I'll be able to help out. :) I really admire people who can run huge exchanges and seem so unruffled. I'd imagine it would be so hard and there would be so much going wrong behind the surface.

What I'd like to do is figure out some magical way to make it a place where people who have never ventured into writing darkfic before can give it a go and yet keep quality high at the same time.

Hmm. I can't think of any way that wouldn't be wank-inducing. Heh.

Definitely ask me around that time! I was sad I missed out on writing for it this year. I haven't written darkfic for a while now. Just about everything I'm turning out nowadays seems remarkably fluffy. *g*

I know the feeling. It's why I've been half trying to get somebody to run an exchange for another fandom I'm into. I know if there's an exchange then I'll be motivated to write. XD Plus, it's a fandom with very few fics so I'd love to see more.
