For KHR it was wanting to play Air Gear characters off Reborn characters, both here and at another game of mine that died about a year ago. I had seen plenty of Reborn characters in games, and really enjoyed Mukuro, but I decided to finally read the canon because my Akito and Agito at the other game were close to Chrome and Bel respectively and it prompted them ICly to read the canon. :D Yeah, it was that kind of game.

For Bel, it was probably the combination of crazy troll, blood fetishist, and isolated upbringing, as well as all those fun issues up in his head. I'm often drawn to characters with Issues that cause very distorted self-images that don't match up with what they're really like. I enjoy their struggle for controlling and maintaining the balance between the two. Bel always has to be "the prince." He's a genius, he's always better than everyone, he's unrepentant, and he will not accept any result otherwise, even when it's shoved in his face. A guy who'd rather cut his tongue off than admit he's fallible; a guy who stabbed his twin to death because he couldn't beat him in anything and nothing is worse in a rival than your own mirror image; a guy who refuses to give up even when he's dizzy from craziness and blood loss, suffering from a broken leg, and the entire floor is about to blow up in less than a minute... that degree of perseverance and stubbornness in order to preserve his self-image as "the amazing prince" is really what drew me to him. And okay so I have a huge ping for twisted sibling dynamics in general, especially for twins. :Da

What do each of your characters like most about Camp?

Almost everyone has a ping for twins, I think. It's just natural. >.>

Neji has a complicated relationship with camp at this point, and it's hard to say he likes any particular aspect of it best, or that he hates any part of it exactly. There are things he likes and dislikes, but often even the things he dislikes have contributed to who he is now, and he's not unaware of that. If he were forced to admit it, he's liked the chance to define himself away from his clan.

Ino is simpler. She likes the people.

Hatter likes to troll people from so many different places. Xe also has a fair amount of curiosity in other versions of Christian cosmology--in particular other Lucifers, and other Belials. So there's a degree of intellectual self-involvement. But mostly it's the trolling such diverse people.

Ion likes that Radu is alive. :|b

Okita has been in camp for just about a month and a half, so he's still in the new place in a lot of ways. Despite the fact I've comment spammed with him like whoa. He hasn't so much settled enough to like anything that well, though he does enjoy some of the people.

Rank your characters by how healthy their social interactions in camp are. XD

Nana > Accelerator > Delirium > Belphegor

Nana has the healthiest, though it's partly because she's been here a week and only met nice people so far.

Accelerator has... Last Order, two friends (Ion and Necoco), and some other neutral to positive CR (Okumura Rin, Nico Robin, Sakurakouji Sakura, etc.), along with some people he either tolerates or dislikes but who are really just harmless. Which is not as healthy as it sounds, considering he's been here for ten months now, but for someone who never trusted anyone or spoke to people without malice back home, that's to be expected. It doesn't hurt that almost no one has targeted him and that's really refreshing.

Delirium has her fair share of healthy and unhealthy social interactions, simply through self-definition. What might be healthy for her is unhealthy for others. There's really no other way to rank her.

Belphegor has mostly unhealthy interactions. He's always trying to annoy or fight Squalo, he annoys Mika as much as he gets along with him, he pesters his knight Shuri and pestered his minion Haru before she left, and in general he will always be a troll looking for entertainment. On the upside, he hasn't gotten into any seriously life-threatening scenarios for a good long time.

Tell me about a canon you read or watched because of Camp and enjoyed it?

Well, most recently I read a big chunk of di[e]ce--I even looked at raws and read text translations of that one, and that is rare for me, because I find it so distracting trying to match them up. That is entirely due to the cast in camp and having people mention characters in pimping posts and such. I can admit, because I'm a realistic person, that a big part of the draw was the art style. It took that manga a very short time to more or less hit my aesthetic sweet spot for character design, if not always for page layout and backgrounds. The plot did interest me, though, with the whole game motif. And. I mean. It's not like I dislike violence in things.

I've also been trying to read Code: Breaker, but I haven't managed to get far enough into it yet to really say if I enjoy it beyond a character or two.

So how much would Accelerator laugh if Ion genderswitched? (Hint: the icons, they stay exactly the same.)

Ooooh, yeah, di[e]ce is also one I enjoy, for many of the same reasons. I haven't read the raws+translations yet, though. I admire your patience for that.

Accelerator would piss Ion off SO MUCH from all the laughing... until he got genderswitched too. Then they would tsun together.

So how are Ion and Radu doing these days?

tsunthuselah October 6 2010, 21:12:52 UTC
People could at least pretend we're manly. :(

Ion is sort of dumb and still has some guilt issues when they talk, and it's keeping him from being more assertive about being closer as friends again. I should bug Radu to play more, and see how if I can't get him to face that. He would, I think, except he doesn't think of it as being wrong per se.

Is there anything in particular that stands out as something your characters are interested in, but never would have been exposed to if not for camp?

velocivector October 6 2010, 21:22:18 UTC
/is totally manry what are you talking about

Bel is interested in chakra due to his interactions with the Uchiha brothers. Primarily Sasuke, whom he's fought a couple times. Unfortunately he's lazy and there's no one who would willingly teach him how to use it.

Whose icons were the easiest to keyword and how do you decide what to use for keywords?

Reply

cureworsethan October 6 2010, 21:32:16 UTC
Oh, this is a fun one to answer. I am such a dork.

I don't normally have a super hard time keywording things. For most of my characters, I just kind of slap them with the first thing that comes to mind--often song lyrics, but somehow Ion got stuck with a bunch of recipes/Top Chef/Project Runway references--BUT~! Pretty much as soon as I thought about the Okita icons at all, even for my personal journal, or if someone else were to app him, or whatever, I wanted him to have Doc Holliday quotes from Tombstone.

Because somehow, the snarky fictionalized historical tuberculosis patient crossover aspect was too hilarious for me to pass up. That meant all I had to do to keyword for him was look up quotes.

Do you think you'll be apping more in the future?

Reply

velocivector October 6 2010, 21:42:28 UTC
I do plan to app in the future. While I don't know when, there are a few characters I want to app.

Name a canon you wish to see in Camp that currently isn't.

cureworsethan October 6 2010, 21:50:16 UTC
Well, we have Skip Beat! characters now, so not that. For canon we don't have, possibly Nurarihyon no Mago. I want a Rikuo. And possibly a Tsurara. And other characters. >.>

That is primarily just so I have more youkai to stalk, and while it's not a perfect canon by any means, I do like how NnM handles youkai mafia type things in the modern work. That, and Night Rikuo is hot.

Reverse!

I had a feeling you were going to say NnM. XD

I want to see Salute Your Shorts. It's a TV show from my childhood that takes place at a summer camp and used to air on Nickelodeon all the time. Preferably Bobby Budnik or Donkeylips, or maybe Kevin "Ug" Lee or the prissy girl whose name I don't remember, but anyone would do.

Your characters' worst mistletoe nightmares, if applicable.

Reply

cureworsethan October 6 2010, 22:20:08 UTC
(...I almost said Married with Children. It's not usually something that lasts, but I occasionally have this urge to see the Bundys in camp. idk.)

Well, Hatter has no mistletoe nightmares. Hatter is other people's mistletoe fear. Soooo.

Neji would really rather not see Shika again under the mistletoe after last time, but not really nightmare...

Okita...

You know, I think Ion is the only one who would have mistletoe nightmares. But meeting any number of people would be traumatic for him. If he'd met Dietrich there, it would have been. Like. End of the world nightmare-like.

Do you actively try to balance your lineup in anyway? I.e, you always like having at least one girl, or one character who can be social, or (at least) one troll, or something like that?

I used to intentionally app male-female-male-female, but I've since given up on that and try to at least keep one of each sex at all times to prevent sausagefests or tacofests. XD I always like to have at least one jerk, one normally nice/social person, someone crazy or silly, someone who likes to provoke others (can be nice or a jerk), and I don't like having everyone be too similar in the same way. One problem I've had is that I like a lot of crazy characters, but I also play Delirium, so that cuts down my enthusiasm. I am not so hot on playercest. It feels contrived, moreso if they would get along too well, so I try to avoid lineups that would tempt me to playercest on-screen a lot. It's self-regulation.

Which character do you have to make up the most headcanon for?

Reply

cureworsethan October 6 2010, 23:38:49 UTC
Hmmm. They all need a fair amount headcanon, since I have a habit of not apping main characters. Neji and Ino have had more opportunity to need headcanon for various things over the years, and Ion has a lot of gaps, buuuut...

I'd say Hatter generally needs the MOST headcanon. For me. Despite the fact that Hatter is less likely than the others to actually share the details of hir past and motivations, AS only gives a fairly limited snapshot of hir, so to have an idea what's going on in hir head at any given time, I end up doing a lot of speculating. It's fairly varied stuff, too. In the end, most of it doesn't even affect how I play hir. It's just for my own exploration into the character.

Which of your characters do you have to do the most research to play?

Reply

velocivector October 7 2010, 01:02:32 UTC
Let's see...

Accelerator requires mostly just research on vectors and other scientific stuff, though the light novels provided a lot of that knowledge for me. I had already researched albinos from when I apped Dancy, so one of the only other things I had to worry about were little things - like the skin hormones that you get from UV rays, etc.

Bel required some research on metals used for knives and wires, knife throwing styles, the mafia in Italy, European culture and food in general, etc.

Delirium requires very little research aside from abnormal psychology. Most of the research I do for it is actually on characters from other canons so I know what she might or might not know...?

Nana requires almost no research. I had already researched prosthetic limbs a while back for another character, and the canon provides almost everything else.

......I think Accelerator wins here simply because of how hard it is to find out some of these things. In fact, I think I listed them in order of amount of research. XD

SAME QUESTION.

cureworsethan October 7 2010, 01:24:56 UTC
Well, Hatter does prompt me to search for various random things, and I did some looking into the mythology of the demon, but hands down the winner on that one is Okita. His canon is not perfectly, totally historically accurate, but it's accurate enough that I feel inclined to try to know something about what I'm talking about. Along with the obvious stuff, I find myself looking up things like... "When was ramen invented?" "What was going on with money at the time?" (Prompted by Saitou having to look into it.) "When was ____ introduced to Japan?"

And I've actually read a sort of silly amount about TB considering how much I actually plan on doing with it.

If camp were to relocate again, where would your characters want it to move?
