What is the relationship between Okita and Hijikata, in your canon?

I play: Oriya, Isaak, Methos, John Watson

Complicated! Seriously, it's something that comes up. It comes up a lot in the drama CDs. Hijikata thinks Okita hates him. Kondou thinks Okita looks at Hijikata like an older brother, and that he antagonizes him like a younger sibling would. Saitou wonders about it fair amount, because on the one hand Okita trolls Hijikata about his bad poetry, but on the other hand he memorized all of his poems to do that, which doesn't seem like something he'd do if he just didn't like Hijikata. Okita often says that he doesn't care about Hijikata, and that he trolls him because he's talentless and deserves it, etc, but then in the anime his teasing normally seems to be trying to encourage Hijikata to do things that Okita does think would be good for him...

I don't think he hates him, but he does like being able to get a rise out of him. He can be jealous sometimes of Kondou's trust in Hijikata, because Okita is a giant fanboy for Kondou in Hakuouki, but I think it would be a little too simple to just reduce it to that.

But they have gay poses ... )

Hahaha, that pose XD

I . . . I DON'T KNOW HOW TO ANSWER THAT? It didn't feel epic to me at the time? I GET THE IMPRESSION THAT I'M MISSING SOMETHING.

So, how would Okita react to a third Okita in camp?

It would depend. I've thought about that, myself. It would sort of depend on the Okita, but one thing with Sougo is that he's not really supposed to be the SAME person, just a similar alternate person. I think that's a little easier to handle than if it were a different version of himself. I'm not entirely sure how he's react to a third Okita, and I'd be very curious to try playing it out, but I'm not sure how it would work out quite. I think he'd probably find a way to laugh it off in the end, though.

What was Oriya's reaction to Okita's identity in the game? XD

They should play in camp.

Oriya seemed a little more familiar than a lot of the characters in camp. Like, a lot of the characters seem to come from very different worlds, and they seem futuristic, and so he accepts that, but they end up seeming fairly foreign. Even a lot of the Japanese characters will often say or do things that leave him feeling "lol what?" That's getting less the case as he's in camp longer, but even so. Oriya seemed like someone who you could put in Okita's world, and he'd still make sense.

That said, how he shows his loyalty is a little funny. Not the loyalty itself, which is admirable enough, but the way he'd react because of it.

Which of your characters were you the most excited to get?

hidesthebodies October 3 2010, 03:46:25 UTC
Yeah, Oriya kind of gives off a timeless sort of feeling. He would fit right into Okita's time, and could even keep the same job. Someone has to run those high-class brothels. :|b

I think I was the most excited about getting in with Seishirou. He was such a well-known character that I was afraid that nothing I did would be good enough to win everyone over. Plus, he was pretty much everything I wanted in a character, at that time.

How are Ion and Radu doing?

The Shinsengumi could even see him when he showed up to make Shinpachi settle his tabs. :|a

Ion still feels kind of awkward around Radu. I should make pie play with him more--I always MEAN too, but then I become distracted by things or she's busy, and I put it off or forget. But Ion really feels like he failed Radu, and then failed him AGAIN because he didn't even stay dead, and while he's gotten used to the idea that Radu is alive her, and is ridiculously happy about that in some ways, in others he feels like he's missing! an opportunity! to make failing as a friend up to him! But he's not sure how, and the idea that he should isn't entirely formed.

Which is kind of sad, because it makes him less inclined to bug Radu than I'd like him to be.

What does Isaak think of Grandmother and Ion?

Isaak thinks that forming an acquaintance with Lady Mirka is a good political move. Mirka is close to Seth Nightlord and an important figure in her own right, which makes her a valuable connection. It helps that she is excellent company, as well. He also believes that Mirka is somewhat aware of his uh...connections, but also feels that it is convenient to cultivate a relationship. Isaak does respect Mirka, but he will use her if he has the chance.

Ion is not much of a blip on his radar. He is aware of him as a means to control Radu and Mirka, but there isn't a need for that right now. He's amusing to talk to, but not much else. We should thread with them more.

Does Ion have any thoughts on Isaak?

Not really, aside that his grandmother is kind of weird, but that's not new. He does wonder how he avoids things like ending up in cat ears.

So what are things like between Radu and Isaak now?

watchingthegame October 3 2010, 05:32:36 UTC
Eh, not that complicated. Isaak cares about people only so much as they are useful to him. If he could have, he would have eliminated Radu in camp, simply because Radu has proven that he cannot be trusted at all and he's more bother than he's worth. Since that's impossible, Isaak turned to other uses for him. Which was...being a distraction for Dietrich, in the beginning. Really, Radu's position in all this has always been up to Radu. Isaak even told him at one point that he could make life more comfortable for himself, if he found a way to be useful. Radu EVENTUALLY figured this out and they mostly ignore one another now, except when they exchange information or something like that. In Isaak's view, if you're going to remain a piece in the game, you must be useful. If Radu can't be eliminated, Isaak will make sure he's of some use to him.

What are your anti app pings?

Being too virtuous. It's an issue for me. I'm sure this reflects on me badly as a person, but flaws tend to be a big part of what draws me to characters, so being too flawless or having boring flaws is a huge turn off. Lack of plausible motivation. Clunky characterization. I hate reading something and feeling like a scene was forced just to prove someone was evil/kind/badass/stupid/whatever. Obviously there will be scenes that show you that kind of thing, but if the author's hand is too visible, then it's a huge turn off.

So what drew you to PMK Okita?

You know, I've thought about it some, and I'm not entirely sure. I'd like to see him grow more as a character. I don't think he seems like all his potential for growth is gone and it's all resolved, but at the same time, I don't know exactly what way I'd like to see him develop more. I think I'd like to see him get more... nuanced? But on the other hand, I like how straight forward he can be.

I think mostly I'm just curious how he would mature. Obviously he'll gain more experience and maturity, and I don't know that I have a direction I'd want that to take so much as I'd like to see more of the steps he'd take.

Who is your favorite character of all time? If you have one. XD

I don't think I have one? I tend to fall in and out of love with characters, depending on my interests at the time. I can't think of one character that I keep coming back to.

Is Mad Hatter your favorite character from AS? Who would you like to see apped from the series?

Reply

cureworsethan October 3 2010, 21:34:45 UTC
Hatter is probably my favorite character, yeah. It might be a toss up between Hatter and Arachne, who I was seriously considering apping instead, but I'm really happy with the way this worked out.

I'd pretty much like to see any AS cast, though. I really can't think or many characters I don't want who would actually be appable. I'd love to see Asmodeus, but I don't know that that would work, because he has so little canon. But it would make Hatter's life interesting.

Do you try to have any particular kind of balance with your characters when you app, or just whoever strikes your fancy?
