Its been a long time since I've posted, so I feel somewhat obligated to do so.
I hate Fall Out Boy, and my neighbor is blasting them next door, so I've put on my headphones and I'm listening to Daniel Johnston. I like my neighbor, and I can't really get too pissed, because to his mainstream ears, Dead Kennedys or the Butthole Surfers probably sound pretty strange.
I've decided to do my own thing for a while as far as music goes. I'm thinking of calling the first tape (I'm recording audio casettes because I don't have access to anything better) "A List of Insane Musicians." I don't really know what to call the solo project. Any thoughts? It wouldn't need to have any political bent, nor would it have to make any sense. I'm probably going to shy away from politics on this. I know that one of my accoustic covers will be Mexican Radio by Wall of Voodoo (totally 80's, for sure). I'm also considering Rock Me Amadeus by Falco and She Blinded Me With Science by Thomas Dolby, but that depends if I'll be able figure out how to play those synth heavy, bastard songs. Mexican Radio will be easy.
The Static Idols played a show and we got hoed in the face by the fucker who ran the venue. I didn't understand what the big deal was, I mean, you can hardly get all pissed about someone's set when they're playing in a fucking basement, can you? I don't know, I mean, it wasn't even his basement, it was his mother's basement, which makes me think he has a false sense of status. He has status because his mom let's him put on shows in their basement and thus he can get head from abused fifteen year old groupies in search of father figures, but this too shall pass. Oh well.
Regardless, the whole experience turned us off from the punk scene, because their criticism was no doubt in regards to our difference in sound from the other bands. I'll be the first to admit that an argument could be made that The Static Idols wouldn't be musically defined as punk rock. Perhaps someone could help us classify ourselves so we might be able to have a target audience? www.myspace.com/thestaticidols
In any event, that's all the news (that's fit to report). I hope no one thought I'd died. You would be wrong.
