Cureclover, you have my thanks ! I saw for the first time Ergo Proxy this week and I love it. The artwork, the character design and development, the world and the poetry in some pictures... But I admit, i didn't understand each detail. I must watch Ergo Proxy again, after read your guide. Your job was really helpful. One question, in the first episode, the voice in Romdeau said "use whitout moderation". Does it mean pseudo-humains not pollute like us or their technology allows this? And pseudo-huamins can't give life by themselves but they can have sex? We saw just Re-l Mayer kiss Vincent but no other erotic touch.
1) Use without moderation: One of the tasks of the dome humans was to make Earth inhabitable again if they could. The humans in the dome are encouraged to consume as much as possible and leave waste, because that helps the eco-system get going again. They dump the waste outside of the dome as you see in later episodes. (You asked a good question. I'll add this explanation to my episode guide if someone else has the same question.)
2) Pseudo humans can have sex just like normal humans. Being sterile doesn't prevent them from doing that. They just won't be able to have babies.
2) Ok, i had some doubts because we don't see a lot of loveliness.
Otherwise, i'm agree with you, that Vincent wouldn't attack the "real" humans first. But he will defend what he loves and himself, like he did from the start of the anime when he's Vincent.
That anime looks like Wolf's Rain at some point, but a little more optimistic I guess. Because at the end, Earth "reborn", Android and pseudohumains can be independent, and of course, because Re-l Mayer and Vincent can share their love. And if we're optimistic, it's possible to share the world until the death of all pseudo humains (because they can't give life). Humains can coexist with Android. The only problem for real humains will be Ergo Proxy existence. Humains don't like stronger existence that could be a hindrance.
Yeah, I meant habitable. I fixed it in the episode guide.
Vincent and Re-l's relationship developed slowly. It took a while for them to trust each other and become friends. Vincent was in love with her, but Re-l wasn't in love with Vincent yet. So it's normal that nothing happens for a while. I think they will grow closer after the end of the anime.
Yes, the relationship developed very slowly but it's good and it's why we really love it. And it's interesting that Vincent/Ergo Proxy is the one who scares Re-l the most and in the same time she feels irresistibly drawn by him. Another point I like is the fact that both of them search their "raison d'être" and the truth. And search the truth is more important to them that their feelings : Vincent leave Re-l in Romdo and go forward thinking never see her again, and they risk their lives in order to find the truth rather than live "peacefully"
It's implied that Vincent regained (most of) his memories and that his Ergo personality took over. Vincent/Ergo took off immediately into the city leaving Re-l behind. Ergo doesn't really know Re-l as much as Vincent, so she was probably less important at that moment. He wanted to find Monad and discover what was happening in the city and the truth. Re-l probably didn't have a chance to say anything because Vincent/Ergo left so quickly. Later they meet up of course.
What I've watched Fate/Zero and Kara no Kyoukai movie series. They're both really good and take place in the same universe. Kara no Kyoukai is really hard to understand at first, just like Ergo Proxy, but when you understand the story it's amazing. (I heard from someone that the French subtitles for Kara no Kyoukai aren't very good. I don't know if that's true or not.) Death Parade is great as well. It's one of my favorite animes.
What I haven't watched The guy who made Ergo Proxy made other series that are similar and I've heard that they're really good. I have them on my list and I plan to watch them sometime. The series are: Serial Experiments Lain, Haibane Renmei and Texhnolyze.
RE: Inhabitable and Habitable are interchangeablecurecloverApril 17 2017, 11:28:36 UTC
I'm not a native speaker of English. I already study English and most of the time my English is fine.
In French, inhabitable means 'unliveable' and 'habitable' means 'liveable'. Starkfai and I assumed these two words both had the same meaning in English.

I have another question. When Re-l and Vincent returned to Romdo, why they don't stay together?

Thanks for letting me know, though.
