Greetings earth dwellers
Had THE BEST friday night. Lord. Mmmhmm. It was a hot and sensual day, and i had arranged to meet Casey and Kim in St Kilda for dinner and the Espy. After my usual one hour of deciding what to wear, made all the harder by the fact it was hot and i was getting a train and tram, and then a cab home, i decided on a singlet, a skirt (yes a skirt) and sandals. Very un rock Cami, but i decided on this day, dressing for the conditions was necessary (apologies for the betrayal Nic C). A pleasant train ride then the tram arrived straight away. Hooray.
By the time i reached St Kilda, the weather had turned. I stepped off the tram and whoosh, the wind blew up and the rain dumped on my head like a bucket of water. I went from glamourous to a drowned rat in seconds. Ran down Acland street to get some money then took shelter in Maccas and attempted to dry out, particularly my sodden shoes.
Met up with the girls and went over to Greasy Joes for dinner. Fish and chippers for dinner (more like whale and chips, it was so big). Fantastic to catch up with them, especially Kim, who i haven't seen since London, and we had many laughs. Unfortunately they decided not to come to the Espy because Kim had to start work at 8am next day and Casey was tired from the week at work, plus they had a ways to travel to get home. I was undecided about what to do. Also my sms about what time the Sparrows were on got no reply (the drumemr had no credit, wicked child). I decided to walk the girls to the tram, go to the Espy, see what i could see see see, and decide from there.
Arrived at the Public Bar and surveyed the scene. The first band was finishing and there was no one i knew. Decided to grab a Coke for thinking and sat down. Chatted to a girl who obviously took pity on the loser with no friends. She was there to see Fort in the front bar but had come downstairs til they were on for the air. She eventually wandered off wishing me well for the rest of the night. I decided to drink the last mouthful of Coke and go home, rather than be a Nigel No friends. I had just made this resolution when in walked a miracle.
It was my old friend Ali M, who i doubt i have seen since my 21st birthday party. Now if you got all the people in the world and asked who would i least expect to see at the Espy on friday night i would say Ali. She had come from a day at the cricket with some workmates. One of the workmates had friends in the next band Magneto. I told her i was Nigel and she insisted on adopting me, introducing me to her people and driving me home. So she drags me over and introduces me to some people, including Magneto friend - Scott, who squeals "I know you, you're one of Mav's dancing girls. And you're a friend of Tim Reid" I couldn't believe it - one of Ali's friends was Scott Thurling of Popboomarang, who i haven't seen for ages. So we had a love in.
The Sparrows arrived and looked great. The drummer was even slightly normal towards me again, which was good considering he has had moments of weirdness towards me since Europe. Magneto were good. While they set up i educated my new/old friends on The Sparrows, hoping they would be good and impress considering these people were staying out late on my behalf to watch them. They didn't disappoint. They have got even better since December, much heavier and rockier. They have a couple of new tunes, including one Dylan sings. Rock on. My people were impressed.
Post gig they thanked me for introducing them to a new band, i farewelled said band and me, Ali, Scott and other girl hopped a taxi back to Flinders St to where they were parked at their work (they work for the State Government, as does everyone). Then we drove home, chatting and laughing. I discovered Scott lives a few minutes from me, that they quite often go to Retro on a Friday night and they were eager for new recruits to this dancing event. Back to Retro!!!! Hooray!!! So we all exchanged numbers and Ali dropped me home, happy and tired.
Saturday i smiled all day, a cruisey day at work with Hayley, Emz and Marianne (Riss was still in Hamilton Island). Spared a thought for most honoured bestie having dental work. Chilling night at home with DVDs and tennis. Hot weather. Sunday another cruisey day - helped Liam with resumes, more tennis (bad luck gorgeous Andy R!!) and piss farting about.
Such a good weekend. So glad to reconnect with some old faces and maybe lay the path for a re-kindling of some friendships. They move in a different circle to me and maybe thats good. Maybe i gotta branch outta my long time scene.
Nearly BDO time!!!!!
