I should start putting into writing all the mysterious manifestations of my dad. Aside from his slippers appearing next to my bed and the smell of cigarette smoke in front of the house, there was last night.
Let me give you a little back story.
Yesterday, my mom discovered that the money my dad had been planning to give to us children for Christmas was missing. The amount is quite substantial and was locked away in a drawer but the key-- being part of a key set- was easily accessible. Since we were always out and about, the helpers--who are a mother and daughter team-- were the only people at home. My sister was furious and wanted to fire them on the spot. My mom, on the other hand, talked to them first. She told them not to be blinded by money because they would inevitably have to pay for what they had taken one way or another.
Last night, my dad supposedly intervened.
My mom woke up at around 2am because a mosquito had been preying on her blood. Then she found one of the helpers-- the mother-- on the stairs. Apparently, "Ate N" heard somebody calling her and so had left her room to heed the call. But then, she heard somebody banging on the wall (or was it the door) last night and she checked to see who it was but there was nobody there.
Today, my mom asked the helpers to look for the money again and voila, it appeared. Inside a brown envelope on the table.
Which is obviously bull because we don't leave money of that amount lying around. So I'm not sure. It could be that Ate N was lying about hearing somebody call her in the dead of the night ( because I swear these helpers sleep like the dead-- no offense, dad) and that she was on her way to return the money or do something worse-- like steal more money and run away. Or that she was really lured by a strange mysterious voice only for her ears.
Either way, I believe my dad was responsible for the banging.
Ate N is just not that creative.
