Moving to Manhattan and birthdays

So I've been house sitting for my boss this month. My job is to keep the plants alive. There are two that are suffering, but other than that I am doing a good job. I'm just glad there are no pets involved...I don't know what I would do to them. I did get a request to cat sit in the same neighboorhood, but I will be out of town for part of the time, so the cat is going to a kitty hotel.

The apartment is nice. A one bedroom in the West Village, near Christopher Street. And walking distance to my office. This being my last week there I need to over utilize the proximity to fun places and take advantage of being able to go home and then go out again. I like my neighborhood in Brooklyn, but there are advantages to being in the city. Most of them related to travel time. But the apartment is in a quiet area that seems much removed from the insanity of the rest of Manhattan.

This being said I spent the weekend in Brooklyn. Saturday night Sarah took me out for burritos. Then met up with Rob and Anna at Cafe Grumpy in Williamsburg. This is the new home of the Williamsbrg Church, starting July 16. It's a really great little coffee shop that has a back room. When not in use for the church, there is live music. I think the group that was there Saturday night was actually just rehearsing, but they weren't bad. After coffee I was tired and not wanting to deal with the G train to Park Slope, so slumber party it was. Sarah made chocolate fondue, which helped aleviate the tired crankiness.
Sunday was my birthday. At church I got an ice cream cake with a candle, I didn't get my birthday pin thuogh because I skipped Sunday School to go home and shower. The cake was enough.

7th Avenue had a street fair. We went to this straight from church so I was in heels. And it was 95 degrees outside. Since I had no money, I found that street fairs aren't nearly so much fun when you can't buy frivilous things you don't need. I did buy a raffle ticket though at the salon where I got a bang trim and I WON. A haircut, pedicure, tanning session, and some products. I call it good birthday karma.

Greg came with recording equipment to record Anna's squeaky bike break. It is the loudest break I've ever heard, so should make an ok sound effect. Then he put my air conditioner in for me. This was very nice of him as it was on top of the closet and I think there would have been broken bones involved had I done this myself. My room is nice and cool now though, and as much as I don't like to turn on the AC there are some days it is like heaven.

We went to Johnny Mack's for dinner. They have good milkshakes and wings. At dinner every member of my extended family managed to call and wish me happy birthday. You would think they would have been able to call at some other point in the day than the one time I couldn't really talk. But I won't complain, becuase it shows they haven't forgotten me.

I'm back at the bosses place now for the week. I found out yesterday he fractured his arm in Croatia. But is returning on Saturday. Then it's home to Madison for a whole WEEK! This excites me more that it should, but finally a real vacation.

Ok back to work...
