Try to curb your astonishment

I'm writing Charles and Erik discussing limited-overs cricket. This is either some sort of personal zen, or a new pinnacle of self-indulgence.

(The first limited-overs competition in county cricket was held in May 1962. IT'S LIKE FATE.)

In other news, I leave the country for three weeks on Sunday. I did this just as Inception fandom broke as well ( Read more... )

So I guess I have a hard deadline on recs, huh. Also to write up that game idea I'm not going to run yet and have bubbling in my head if I want you to read it.

Or, alternatively, you can wait until I get back. *G* Well, the recs might be nice, so I have things to read on the plane, but you could wait on the game concept, if time does not permit. (There's a chance we might be taking the laptop with, so I may even have email access over there, which would be charming and novel.)

I should write up the recs anyway. The problem with the game concept is I tend to want to write them as blurbs and this is not trivially blurbifying itself.

(Take the laptop with if you can. I don't know what I'd do without mine for three weeks and I don't just mean internetwise.)

I would not object to the recs, obviously. But I'm not going to cling to your ankle until you do it or anything. *G* As for the game, do the long summary? You can always summarise the summary for blurb purposes later? (This is the voice of experience, that experience being trying to condense 180k words of fantasy novel into a one-page summary. OH GOD.)

Not sure about the laptop-taking. Power-conversion questions aside, we've always travelled sans-computer before, and there's something refreshing about it. (Also, no need to worry about the expensive hardware being pinched, though this is less of a concern when we're in relatively civilised climes.) On the other hand, I cannot deny how useful having it around for email, let alone writing purposes, will be.

I need to get in the habit of making rec posts in general. Fandom will not kill me even if my FTF gamer friends don't get it. And the game idea, maybe that's the right idea to write a long blurb. The thing is that most of my ideas tend to be atmospheric and the blurb helps me shape the plot. But I'll think about it.

For short trips, I prefer my phone since it's easy to carry. Three weeks would be a long time for me to be without my laptop. Power conversion issues are a pain as I know (having lived in England for a couple of years), but even apart from my internet addiction, I'd have a hard time not having it to write with.

Also, three weeks without email would be three weeks without running our email game, and I'm not sure we've put the game on hold for longer than a week even when we moved cross country. That's disconcerting to realize. Maybe we'll take an internet-less trip when we finish it.
