Bring me the head of Mark Millar

This post contains fangirl ranting and raving, which is nothing new, but it also might contain spoilers for anyone who hasn't yet read Ultimate X-Men #20 and I know some people get all bothered about things like that. So, cut for spoilerage.

Subtitle: Dee gets Ult-X #20 and is Very Unhappy.

Well, the cover rocks. Much. Atmospheric and stuff, especially with the black framing. Is not Wolverine. Spiffy. My general feeling of well-being continues as I open up, to a very nice split of X-Men action and Professor X stillness. I really like that sequence. I think it works beautifully.

Moving on, story, story, blah blah... It's all solidly done, and I'm generally enjoying myself. Wolvie and Peter in the showers made me snicker. (But, now that I think of it, how does Peter know the feeling inside the Brotherhood? Hmm... possibly nothing to it, but maybe there's a fic idea in there for someone who cares.) The ongoing Charles/Erik scene also works well. And oh, the possibilities of the Ororo/Hank scene.

And then, just as I'm on a happy-hopping spree of joy, I turn the page and Millar sells out. Yes, I'm talking about the Jean/Scott kiss. (Her name goes first because if she was any more insistent, she'd be using a cattle prod.) I haven't felt this annoyed and disappointed since Greedo shot first. Even though he'd been edging that way, I kept hoping, hoping, wishing that he'd use the possibilities he's given himself in this new continuum and try something different.

Here's hoping it's just to insert more angst into the upcoming Brimstone arc.

I'm just about hopping mad enough to vent all my aggravation through a fic targeted firmly at her smirking fucking smugness for that entirety of that page. Her attitude approached arrogant, and... well, maybe I'm projecting, but does Scott just put up with this shit?

Bah humbug.

...OK, I'm done now.
